Newcastle United 1 - 2 Reading - 19/01/13 - post-disaster reaction from page 53

We were the better team by a mile?

We were utterly disgusting in that second half.

We have been disgusting as you put it, but we were still the better team. Were the players disgusting or the tactics Wullie ? Who would you have brought on for Cabaye & Marv ?

I wouldn't have brought off Marveaux in a million years. Shola and Jonas both needed replacing - neither should have started.

Replacing with who though ? Marv didn`t touch the ball more than 3 times in the second Perch did and earned us a point last week ?

You thought Shola and Jonas should have started and stayed on for 90 minutes?

If Marveaux wasn't having an influence, that's because the players had very clearly been told, as soon as we scored, to let them have the ball and defend it. That is Pardew's default reaction to a 1-0 lead.

I didn`t say they should start, I just want you to name better alternatives.  As for the second part I can see the logic in defending a 1-0 lead when you have 2 strikers that probably won`t score for the rest of the season unless its a deflection. You can attack all day long with those 2 it won`t get you any goals.

Papiss Cisse? Are you taking the piss?

I think a better alternative would have been a central three of Anita, Cabaye and Perch/Bigirimana with Obertan and Marveaux either side of Cisse. As attacking as we can possibly get against the only side worse away from home than us.

Obertan is worse than Jonas, I know that takes some doing but at least Jonas will track back and defend, at the same time as kicking the ball harder than my dead nan.

Bigi has been on a downward slope for the past few games, miss placing a lot of passes, he allowed the cross in for the second if I remember right, out paced and brushed of the ball.

The annoying thing about Shola...actually wait theres too many, the hoof ball sticks up front for 30 seconds longer when he plays so I see the logic in playing him when your alternative is Obertan.

It wouldn`t matter how many balls got threaded through to Cisse from a packed misfield because he has spent this season offside or on the floor.

how jonas and shola were on the team sheet to start with, never mind playing 90 minutes needs explaining as does the marv substitution.

cannot excuse cisse at all today. was he more to blame for the defeat than pardew?

santon  to blame for the equaliser - awful positioning.

Fact is, in the second half we defended a threat that simply wasn't there.

We were almost willing Reading to take the ball and do something with it.

absolutely. the start of the second half was baffling.

 It was as pathetic as it was unbelievable that we allowed it to happen.

would things have been different today if Perch had started for williamson?

Doubtful given that he is equally as woeful playing centre back.

but williamson let that 1st goal get through his legs for 'le whatever' slide into.  i did think it came off his elbow, btw.

We've not going to agree if you think Jonas and Shola are capable of playing as wide forwards. You obviously come from the same stable as Pardew in thinking that your forwards should be picked for their defending, I don't agree so we'll leave it there.

Perch for Marveaux is probably the worst sub I've ever seen in a game of football. It was so bad words can't really describe it.

Obertan is not worse than Jonas like. Absolutely no chance.

I'd have to watch it back but Perch at CB isn't the answer to any questions IMO. First goal was Santon's fault in the main for me, ball watching and slow to react to a simple pass/run.

its a shame there isnt a question and answer session for the manager from the fans after the match, because we really need to know his thinking behind this.

also he needs to explain why he keeps picking jonas despite admitting himself that jonas has been poor this season.

Aye, and it lost us the game. Feel sick after that, but it looked the only outcome as soon as that sub was made.

Negative and cowardly.

Until today it was Kinnear's half-time changes at home to Stoke. (2-0 up, drew 2-2 after he put Jonas and Cacapa in CM).

Withdrawing all of Marveaux, Cabaye and Anita (whilst leaving Shola and Jonas to play the 90)... if it's not the worst collective decision I've ever seen, it's certainly the most negative.

Didn't see the game today, took the lass out for a nice meal but I was relishing to see some updates on my phone that we won this. When I saw Cabaye had scored I thought we were on our way to a 2 - 0 or 3 - 0 comfortable win like the Wigan result.

I'm pretty devastated about this result. Pardew has lost his head this season as he must have been convinced after last season he was some sort of super manager. When things fell apart for him this season he's actually got worse when trying to fix it and I think right now he's shitting himself and scared because everything he does is a disaster.

That said, he must have a striker and a centre, both of top quality, right now. No more fucking around. Relegation is a real threat as the players and manager are in a messed up state and need a boost.

Great story how was the soup? Did your lass enjoy the full day? Please confirm bummage occurred and restore my faith in this forum

Definitely, totally inexplicable. The Cabaye one can (arguably) be explained by his return from injury. But if Cabaye was coming off then Marveaux had to stay.
