The College Dropout
Benitez is a control freak who feels he deserves a real top club. With no real top club after him, I expect he'll want a "project" with lots of money and control. Or at least control. Benitez is a top-notch manager. To think otherwise is ludicrous. And you'd be hard pressed to call us anything but a project after this season, regardless of whether or not that's true. I didn't mention his skill as a manager, just his personality. His personality tells me he would never come here under Ashley.

Though I get the feeling that most top-flight managers are self-centered control freaks, whether they're class (Benitez, Ferguson) or garbage (Pardew, Hughes). A lot of managers on the continent are used to being "head coaches". They have a say in transfers but they're not in 100% control. Benitez is not one of them. Tooj
I wasn't best fan of him at Chelsea but I'd be reasonably happy with di matteo , he passes the not pardew test anyway If Zola fails to bring Watford up wonder if he'd fancy a go, know he failed at West Brom but think what he's done with Watford is good, got together a rather disperate set of players Don't rate Di Matteo at all. I'm not sure, we might represent the best chance for him to stay in the PL. Listen to his interviews. He wants to win trophies. He wants to be back where he was 5-6 years ago. I do rate Benitez highly but I do get a sense that he's "yesterday's man". Sacchi didn't achieve very much after '94 and I feel something similar with Benitez. While still a good manager, he's not the great one of 10 years ago.
Deuce
Ketsbaia. I'm getting warmer to this idea. I really think someone like Ketsbaia could produce a much needed "rally around the flag" effect. And he has had success as a manager, though the one hang-up I have is his lack of top-level managing experience (6 games at Olympiakos, who always dominate the Greek league, doesn't really persuade me all that much). toontenacity
Sure it's been mentioned, but what's the deal with Laurent Blanc? Out of a job isn't he? Any chance he'd be interested?
Dokko
Redknapp would be near the end of a long list but if that was it I'd have more confidence in us staying up with him here the last 3 games than under Pardew.

To be fair he's got Champions League experience and is managing at international level.
TheHoob
Shows what a plight we are in when people would be more than happy to take someone whose only league experience is in the Cypriot league like Barge pole comes to mind.

He won the French league with an unspectacular Bordeaux side and then took a national team in disarray on a 20 game unbeaten run. I would love him personally, is it realistic? Apparently a draw with England (granted their football wasn't great), a defeat against Sweden and losing to Spain deems him unworthy though.
Guest Howaythetoon
I don't particularly like Rafa Benitez but he is still one of the best managers in world football and an outstanding coach and tactician. He would be an amazing appointment similar to that of Sir Bobby, a real high calibre manager with vast experience and a pedigree of success. He cannot be fully judged on his time at Inter or Chelsea. What he achieved at Valencia and Liverpool, however, was nothing short of brilliant, especially in La Liga. Sadly, he would never be an option here at Newcastle because he would cost a lot of money in terms of salary and he also likes to be in complete control. He doesn't suffer fools easily. I could never see MA/DL appointing someone so strong and so demanding. Rafa blamed his inability to win the title for Liverpool on not being backed in the transfer market, he also fell out with several people at Liverpool, from the board-room to his own assistant and even one or two Liverpool players, most notably Alonso. Mind, he would be a good bet help end our search for an elusive trophy and massively so. In one-off games he has shown he is tactically astute enough to win such games. He's a fantastic manager. Never gonna happen though, even though I reckon he would be well up for the challenge of making NUFC a success. He needs a few years and is a builder not an instant impact type manager. Redknapp.... again I don't like him and his football although light years from Pardew's isn't as sily as the media would otherwise have you believe. He's more Allardyce than Wenger than you'd think when it comes to percentages etc. What he does bets is to trust his players and to give them a platform to play. He would get our players playing good football and have us challenging for the top 6 for me but he would be a short-term appointment. Anyway, just like Rafa, he would command huge wages and wouldn't be happy with not having full control of transfers so I don't think he would be a realistic option. I mean, I doubt he'd even leave the South to come North anyway. Plus he's an odious fucker. Go daft and appoint someone like Ginola, Ketsbaia or even fucking Beardsley himself who by all accounts is meant to be a very good coach.
