Rich
What do we reckon he's on? £30k or so? The concern I have with this (and the constantly mooted loans for youngsters) is that we're possibly not convinced of attracting quality players to take up these spots in the squad. The optimist might suggest Rafa is planning on combining loans and compromising on keeping someone like Gouffran so he can go and drop £20m on three or four real difference makers... Interesting argument to be had about whether we're better off bolstering the squad and removing all of the deadwood where possible, or keeping people like Colback and Gouffran involved but bringing in fewer players of a higher quality to improve the first team. What would people prefer, given that we obviously can't have both?
Guest neesy111
Our academy is failing to deliver enough squad fillers, so keeping the likes of Gouffran on may be necessary.

Collage
Why did I click on that website? Why does it exist? It's 2017. Newspapers having an online presence is fairly common.
Ronaldo
There are loads of wingers in the Championship with much more about them who'd cost next to nothing, like. We obviously just don't want to pay.
Away Toon
If we start with Gouffran, Colback or Dummett in the team or on the bench it's going to be another long painful struggle again.
Ronaldo
As much as I think he's not the long term answer, we had far worse defenders than Dummett in the team and on the bench when we finished 4th, 3rd and 5th. Colback and Gouffran have nothing to offer, I agree.

toontownman
The sole reason no-one else has been signed. It's all about Le Gouff.
Sir Toon
It's obvious the hold up with Gouffran is because he's been offered a wage drop to stay. The same happened with Lovenkrands if I remember rightly.

Aye, this. If we're just looking for a squad filler who can come in and do a job now and again there's better options than a 30 year old Gouff knocking around. We might have to buy a fax machine and a pen, though, could be tricky.

Tiotes Witch Doctor
Might sound a little bit dramatic but I think offering this clown a new contract is a bit of an indication of how ambition-less we're going to be on transfers this season, even just having him as an "option" from the bench is soul destroying IMO. LionOfGosforth
Fuck me, the amount of time they spend yapping or being "in discussions" or "stepping up talks" about deals, it's amazing Charnley doesn't need one of those voice boxes for his worn out throat. LionOfGosforth
If they can't get a player, we have*, over the line...what chance do we have of them getting someone from another club *Obviously, as of today, he's not ours anymore. Yeah but we're in discussions, can't rush these things mate
afar
Yes, it was a sign we should all have been worried about what was about to transpire. Why we want to throw away this opportunity to move forward with a world class manager is beyond me.

TheInfiniteOdyssey
He's absolute crap, and I find it totally astonishing that we've seemingly got no lad from our academy who can step in and take his place.
Ronaldo
We were winning games and he was running about, and at the start of the season scoring a few good goals. Those are always effective ingredients to get the mongs onside.

Hopefully isn't here next season but will wish him the best.
