Have to say well done lads, went about it the right way and it could have been very, very different.

A couple of tragic defensive errors and suddenly we've gone from favourites to big underdogs.

Not out of it but a very difficult task at SJP, keeping a clean sheet against them will be hard. It is possible though.

SHould have brought Adam Campbell on man.

for who?

For a player, couldn't had done any worse than Shola.

Adam should have came on instead of Shola. Thought that was pretty obvious.

These nancies wouldn't last 5 minutes in the premiership nevermind finish in the top half. They move the ball about nicely and have a brilliant centerforward, but the thing they do really well is cheat. Not too dissimilar to the Portuguese national team and other "top" Portuguese sides.

Two posts away from 3-3 away...we can do this at home tbh.

yeah... but basically you just did 3 shots on target. The goal, and 2 that hit the posts. Benfica played better

Not bad, genuinely. We were shoddy after they equalised and shot ourselves massively in a ten minute spell where we gave them everything.

Aside from that, we gave them a good game and should have scored at least one more goal. More luck and we'd have had at least two more goals.

Uphill battle to get through, but it's certainly not beyond us.

Ruined ourselves there. They are probably a better side, but we did enough to get a result there. Two ridiculous errors. I'd say I hope both of them get no sleep tonight, but we need them again in less than 72 hours. If we don't beat Fulham then Pardew may have to think twice about putting a full side out in the home game.

As soon as someone puts any kind of pressure on us, i expect us to lose. Thats down to Pardew.

Tonight is very much down to santon. Hope Haidara can push him on to a higher level than this abysmal show tonight.

Well that was s***. Can't see us not conceeding at st James

I am not overly angry at Pardew, was swung by Cisse being denied two goals by the post unfortunately and by too calamaties at the back, what a frustrating way to lose though

The tie isn't dead and it's far from a shameful result against a brilliant team, but it's gutting how we dismantled a potentially excellent result entirely from our own failings.

That pass-back from Santon was absolutely amateurish.

Cisse should have had 4 today, miss control when played in early, the goal and 2 posts.

Anyway if it wasn't for Santon being a f*cking moron we would be heading into the home tie with a fantastic chance, alas all seems lost now.

Good run though, we have nothing to be ashamed of.
