I absolutely accept injuries will have a part to play and we had a lot, quite a few times a number of key players were out at the same time.

On the other hand we didn't do enough in that summer to make sure we could cope with the demands and the negative tactics more than played a part.

He could have had a season that performance wise wasn't great but gotten enough respect by the way he went about it. The excuses negated any good that could have been done. This season he isn't doing bad and we seem to be writing some wrongs. I doubt we will shift him and even if we do I am certain it will be Kinnear so I hope for all our sakes he keeps the excuses to a minimum and doesn't let his arse drop as soon as we go through a poor spell. His lack of confidence definitely rips through the team (see confident Pardew this season and the performances from the likes of Williamson and Tiote).

We've got 7-8 players who wouldn't look out of place in the Champions League tbh.

Krul, Debuchy, Santon, Coloccini, Mbiwa, Cabaye, Sissoko, Ben Arfa, Remy....if we played in any other league in Europe I reckon we'd be a top 4 team.

Why are you bankrupting the club chasing the CL with no PL TV money behind you, speculating wildily on players you can't afford? Seems reckless tbh.

Injuries and Europa League - neither of them forces him to play hoof ball with Cissé on the wing and concede 68 goals. Not explanations nor are they excuses for what he served up last season.

Pardew's inability to get us playing in a defined system as a team for the majority of his time here is what has raised doubts about his ability. He does appear to have chopped and changed his way to an eleven that look fairly well organised currently though. The test will come when we come up against a side that keeps Remy quiet. Hopefully as a team we can work goals through good attacking play as well as hitting teams on the break.

This is my main criticism. On the basis of the past 18 months, the manager employed at this club has been unsuccessful in learning his side how to attack or defend. We lost 19 league games last season, mainly as a result of that. If the recent upturn in form and results is a result of him revising his football approach or learning new ways of utilizing the talent at the club, then sure - go on and bring the club forward.

On evidence of his career and the previous reoccurance of the same mistakes, he has a very long way to go before my belief is back with him.

Think which ever back four he picks today will probably end up in him getting criticised.

If he benches MYM then we'll say we missed his pace and he didn't deserve to lose his spot. If he benches Colo then something like we missed his experience, he's the captain etc.

I'm edging towards the idea we will miss Mapou slightly more.

@sammatterface

#NUFC AP says the criticism post the Man city games has been "replaced with the kind of unrealistic optimism we all meet to try and contain"

What unrealistic optimism?  All I hear is fans talking about the inconsistency of the team and wondering what side will turn up.

Maybe expecting a top half finish is unrealistic now.

For a manager who likes to portray himself as being in touch with the fans, he couldn't be more out of touch if he tried.

Oh fuck off Alan, you fucking charlatan. Everyone is just wondering when you're gonna fuck up and end the good run we're on. Expectation level is nil, other than the expectation that you don't have the tactical nous of a papoose with down's syndrome. Which is barely being met. Cunt.

It seems Pardew has connected being asked about the Champions League/Europa qualification in his press conferences with fans expectations.

Weird thing to say like.
