As long as what we arrange in the next 4 weeks is organised and structured it doesn't really matter. Yeah as long as they cobble together any old s*** it's fine. f*** preparation, fitness and readiness for a new season through actual planning. But they have a month still to do all this planning. Pre-season doesn't start for another 5-6 weeks man. Should already be sorted out. As pointed out already this isn't their first or even second time of making a mess of this. The season only finished 2 weeks ago, it's only 3 weeks since we knew what division we would be in, and there's 5-6 weeks left to organise a good pre-season. We shouldn't have that attitude and a club our size shouldn't ever be in danger of relegation. We were though so it kind of screws up your argument. Also with big clubs like Man U, Barca etc there is a huge commercial interest related to their pre-season tours. Sadly that's not going to be the case with us until we break into the top 4. Most frustrating thing for me is communication. We clearly do have at least some of our pre-season games planned (Blackpool) but the powers that be have decided not to announce it yet. Plenty of opportunity to make a bit of money/build the club profile/build some fitness/do some team bonding and it's "ah fuck it, we'll just play a couple of games nearby then all fly home - like it matters anyway!" Hardly the fault of anyone at the club that Everton pulled out last minute and new sponsorship can't be found by the organisers. I remember us getting hammered 6-1 at Leyton Orient then romping the championship. I think we lost away at Norwich 2-1, when Norwich had just been promoted from league 1. Then we did ok in the league that following season. Cardiff battered us last summer, then we were beating Spurs weeks later, though admitedly the season went way down hill from there. We have a team full of internationals, if we came to Perth we would sell out our 22000 footy stadium. Likewise most other placess. Kanji Posted June 1, 2013 Share Posted June 1, 2013 In my opinion there should be a tour in a nice sunny weather country that would help promote the club, bond the players, and be a welcome success early in the pre season followed by some small matches vs local or nearby sides and/or smaller sides from Europe sprinkled around after and a nice 4 team tourney at SJP before we start the season. So if that means a training camp in Portugal followed by jetting off to the USA to play a few teams in the NE like Philly, New York, Boston area etc then jet back and play some local NE sides and maybe welcome some smaller European clubs to SJP and then a 4 team cup? I don't know if thats too many matches mind you - just seems like it would do the following: get the players fit, bond the players and staff, get much needed match time for our ENTIRE squad, (including the first 11 and young ones and then finally get them at home on our pitch for a few matches before we begin the league campaign) and finally give the club more exposure to key targeted markets. A game against Sporting Lisbon is a possibility – and Braga have also been sounded out about a fixture in Portugal in July. United played in the Algarve Tournament last summer and even though the event was a commercial disappointment for the organisers, Newcastle were impressed with the facilities. Trips to America, Brazil and the Far East were mooted during the course of the year, but United pulled out of talks with sponsors in South Africa a couple of weeks ago after delays in getting a “sign-off” from local companies. Then we s*** the bed at the last minute because what we had organized in our heads (possibly weeks or months in advance) couldn't be organized at the last minute when we bother do something about it in reality. Same with Pardew as the club, all this talk of blue prints, purple and tie dye colored squad members, goal scoring centre halves.. absolutely laughable and will only get worse the more this facade is unraveled in front of ours and the hungry press eyes.
