Disco
65 appearances 3 goals 5 assists Worse stats than Jonas. Is it, looks better Possibly. Whatever, he's still shite. Man, he's not shite man. He showed himself to be a capable winger for Boro and Villa. For the level we're at I think we can forget about a poor spell at Liverpool. Did alreet last season under Brent n all. Was rubbish for Villa too apart from 1 half decent season. Absymal for Liverpool. Terrible for England. A pointless player with woeful attacking output for most of his career. Teasy
Like I said in the other thread. No matter how you look at it, wether its pure value (potential to get our money back or make a profit) or player quality, they'd be absolutely fucked in the head to spend £5m on Downing when they could have Tom Ince for £8m. Downings 29 for fuck sake, Ince is better at 21 and only a few million more.
Cajun
Would rather a winger with pace and ability to consistently beat his man. I bet Downing could deliver a better cross than Jonas or Obertan 9 times out of 10 though. True.... but i'm pretty sure Sinclair is available for a similar price and Ince for a couple of mill more. Much better options available. I bet he will be demanding higher wages as well.
Mole_Toonfan
I don't like Downing but i'm all in favour for anything that sees Jonas back off to play beach football. You don't think we can attract a better winger before the deadline then? i'm all for getting Jonas to like 10th choice but i don't want to just get someone who is better by a small percentage. See no reason why we can't get a better player than Downing.
Yorkie
I don't like Downing but i'm all in favour for anything that sees Jonas back off to play beach football. It wouldn't just be at the expense of Jonas, would it though? He'd be ahead of the likes of Marveaux, Gouffran and maybe even Sissoko - given that Pardew wants to play with two strikers (hinting to a CM duo of Cabaye and Tiote rearing its ugly head again). I wouldn't even have him as a squad player. He doesn't produce anywhere near enough. For all the talk of us over-using the French market, this would be such a lazy, lazy signing. Jack Flash
I'd rather pay the extra and get Ince but he could be rather handy.
Ronaldo
Jonas has 1 goal and 0 assists in his last 50 games, btw. Dunno where thats from, last two seasons in the league he's got: 71 games 3 goals 5 assists Pretty much identical to Downing. How many assists does Downing have in his last 50 games? I bet it's more than zero.

Ronaldo
Marv's stats? Marv isn't a winger. But yes, he's a better player than Downing and I wouldn't ever advocate that displacement.

Downings 29 for fuck sake, Ince is better at 21 and only a few million more. This is basically it. Downing's generally had a pretty shite return throughout his whole career, given the amount of games he's played and the transfer fees he's commanded. And now he's approaching 30 there isn't a shred of hope that he'll get any better. If someone like Ince was available for an extra few quid and we favoured Stewart fecking Downing, I'd be gutted. Cronky
A very decent buy at £5m, but I'm inclined to believe Ryder on this one.
