It's just a dream, but imagine if we could maintain our great form through december and then in january showing some ambition and sign a couple of top class players and have an ambitious attempt at a place in the Champions League. God that would be nice.

I doubt he would sanction that again though, after the Cisse signing essentially failed amidst the same scenario.

Who do we have as winning the league?

I already reckon Arsenal will win it. If they can make it through to Jan 2nd with 14 points or more (out of 21) they'll be in a strong position. If they can get 17-18+ they might run away with it.

I still tip Chelsea. With the exception of CL-winning season (when the league situation was really a lost cause) they always seem to get everything together and go on a run of very good results in March, April, and May. I think Mourinho is figuring out, they will fortify with a Lampard/Essien (both of whom are finished, imo) replacement/insurance in January, and have more of a team spirit than the most similar side, Manchester City. Their immediate fixtures are very winnable as well. It would not surprise me in the slightest if they are tied with even above Arsenal by the time they meet on the eve of Christmas.

If I had to pick the top four:

Chelsea

Arsenal

Manchester City

Liverpool(!)

I don't see much changing for Manchester United without major investment in January. Spurs to me look like a team that has changed too many players, and has a squad full of people who are adapting to the league, aren't ready to be consistent yet, or have been overrated/are not very more than average. Liverpool (well Saints as well, probably) are the one team that have impressed and surprised me early in the Premiership. I think they will beat Spurs when they meet in London in a fortnight.

From what I've seen of Ashely's tenure, if a player we have been tracking becomes cheaper/available or if deals emerge, we'll try to sign the player. We won't force it through, but it opportunities arise, things change.

We are picking up points from places we'd never normally expect so far this season. That should mean that we are ahead of the curve with some easier fixtures to come in theory. Top six must be a realistic possibility.

Might as well do this now and edit it after this match. Spurs up to 2nd, Sunderland out of the bottom 3 before they even kick-off.

Might be a little better. :)

Providing we sign a striker in January, there's no reason why we can't remain in the top 6 all season.

Would also like to see us ship out Obertan and Marveaux in favour of a better orthodox winger. Would be good to have that option from the bench. When it comes to hanging onto a lead, we've got a good bench. When it comes to chasing a game, it's been pretty ineffectual.

I'd be staggered... Wait... We're not in the top six? :hmm:

I think we will finish 7th to 9th unless we invest in January in right areas and go for it. Can see us ending up above all teams currently outside top 10 but below all the teams currently above plus maybe Man Utd

Would agree with this atm. Can't forget that mental 7 wins out of 8 run in the season before last which cemented 5th for us - unlikely that'll we repeat that.

Give it a few more games though and let's see how it shapes. Good to see we're actually going to be fighting for something aside relegation this year.

I said it the other week depending on a few results which we've now picked up; I think that finishing outside the top ten from here would be shit. No excuse not to push on for a European spot, even if the club don't want to.
