Dave
Solid isn't good enough though in a game we need to win. Everyone's annoyed by the state of our attacking play today but then happy to praise a player who doesn't bring anything to the table whatsoever when we have the ball, and in many cases makes it worse. I bet Hughton was delighted to see him on the teamsheet and told his players to pressurise him at every opportunity. Doesn't pick himself like. I bet he wasn't happy considering knockert had 2 shocking games against him last season.

Stifler
Was an improvement on our makeshift LB’s. Yet again though he took away 5 minutes of playing time from the game for his time wasting taking our throws.

Newcastle Fan
His distribution is shocking sadly, almost made me miss manquillo. For a minute i was thinking it's great to finally have a left back, then i saw what he does when he has the ball and remembered

Shearergol
Absolutely outstanding today, our man of the match by a country mile. Good defender, terrible going forward. He’s ideal for a team like us.

Lush Vlad
Really solid when he has to just stay in his own half and not have the ball. Nobody has ever had an issue with his defending, as far as I can tell? So games where we have 17% possession or whatever are tailor made for him. I thought the same about Hayden last night. Home games where we might actually get closer to 40% possession and attempt to break teams down. Both players seem pretty redundant.

The College Dropout
I've seen plenty say he's poor or average at best at defending. For a team that considers clean-sheets golden, he's important.

He doesn’t prevent a cross from coming in often enough and when he does he kicks it out for a throw in which result in the cross coming in anyway. Heron
Great defensively. Massive lift having him back. We just need someone as defensively competent at RB now.

Think it would free us more to play Murphy and atsu on the wings.
Heron
Aye. Which Murphy showed was dangerous yesterday and Atsu on other occasions.
Guest Howaythetoon
Defensively he’s very good, but he’s an awful footballer and that cannot be changed.
Heron
Defending is as much a part of the game as attacking. Not many attackers can defend, so why should we necessarily expect our full backs to attack? It is as much a part of the game to tackle and / or intercept as it is to score... I'd rather give out wingers more license to attack by having some fullbacks who can defend behind them. I'm absolutely certain the reason ritchie has to play is because of Yedlin's defensive problems.

Think people don't like Dummett because they see him as the nervous kid that was being played out of position in a team that lacked character and that was relegated. He's grown as a player since then and it says it all that he featured more than any other player last season and has gone virtually straight back in the team once fit. xLiaaamx
Ritchie hangs his full back out to dry, he's dreadful at picking up his man.
Heron
Ritchie hangs his full back out to dry, he's dreadful at picking up his man. I also agree with this. He's arguably our strongest winger defensively still though. Which doesn't say much but it offers a reason to why he always features.
