I've don't watch as much of Chelsea as I did (since Drogba left, fucking loved him as a player), but how Luiz could ever be worth something approaching £30m is beyond me - even in today's market. Looks a talented enough player but, Christ, he's not that good.

Seventeen million for Kompany or twenty nine million for Luiz.

I love daft little things like that.

Like how Colo & Cisse are the only two players in our entire squad who cost more than what Sunderland paid for Cattermole.

Catts was signed for 6M; Mapou + Anita were signed for 7M+ each

Newcastle United monitoring the progress of Greek star Konstantinos Mitroglou

14 Dec 2013 09:50

Sources in Athens indicate Magpies, Liverpool and Arsenal have run the rule over the 25-year-old Olympiakos striker

Newcastle United are understood to be monitoring the performances of Greece international striker Konstantinos Mitroglou.

Sources in Athens have indicated the Magpies have run the rule over the 25-year-old Olympiakos striker, along with Liverpool and Arsenal.

It remains to be seen how Newcastle deal with the Papiss Cisse situation in January.

The Senegal international has hardly been used in recent weeks and cannot be happy with the odd cameo role.

United would struggle to get the £8m they paid Freiburg for the No 9 two years ago. However, if they do decide to sell Cisse in January, then Mitroglou is a player who would fit the bill.

Olympiakos are braced for bids of around £7.5m for their front man.

He has notched 22 goals for club and country this season, including four hat-tricks, and his form has helped inspire the Greek outfit into the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Greek giants are not too concerned about Mitroglou’s future at the moment as the striker has two years left on his current deal.

Yet he would be unlikely to turn his nose up at a move to the more illustrious leagues of Europe.

In the past Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan have also expressed an interest in the striker.

Mitroglou is the second Olympiakos star that United have taken a look at this term, with Kostas Manolas also on a list of players that the Magpies are monitoring.

His coach Jose Miguel Michel said: “We’ve known for some time that there has been interest from many clubs, but that’s only logical considering how well he has been doing lately.

“There have been no concrete proposals so far, but if he keeps on doing well, it’s going to be hard to keep him.”

United are also keeping an eye on the situation involving Luuk de Jong.

The Dutch Under-21 star is a player that United have kept tabs on since his days at FC Twente.

The summer of 2012 saw United hold talks with the striker’s representatives before he moved to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Yet the move has been a disaster for De Jong.

Sources in Germany say that United talked about a loan move for the player last summer, but they wanted to give De Jong another throw of the dice.

De Jong has gone 11 games without scoring for Gladbach this term and Stoke City are the latest side to show an interest in the player.

THE Magpies Under-18s have been handed a draw with rivals Sunderland in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

But first Dave Watson’s side will have to overcome Barnsley at Oakwell next week.
