The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Pochettino leaves Chelsea by ‘mutual consent’

Risky one like, suppose they've not much to lose. Sporting finishing 3rd is essentially them finishing bottom of their mini league at the top, and Olympiakos are basically Celtic where it's a waste of time for anyone else turning up.

Hope he does well and condemns Palace and/or the mackems.

Marco Silva is a good manager. He'll eventually manage Benfica, no doubt about it.

He was the fan favourite to replace Jorge Jesus and are there are still numerous Facebook pages about the subject. However, Benfica's president chose Rui Vitória.

Hugo Oliveira, former Benfica GK coach (worked with Ederson, Oblak and Julio César) joined Marco Silva staff. He was currently in charge of all Benfica 's GKs youth development.

Good choice, in my opinion.

Its a gamble that is as good as any. Could be a masterstroke. From the Hull front office perspective they needed someone from abroad that wouldn't necessarily know the turmoil happening within the club. Will largely depend if he gets backing to make a few signings.

If it wins the s***-off between them, Sunderland, Swansea & Palace then it's a masterstroke.

Strange that for the first time in ages Sunderland are the ones not making a move.

Wonder if they will be beaten at their own game this season, would be deliciously ironic if they are.

You just know fine well that the media will be after him if he has a poor start whereas someone like 'Pards' (SPEW!) would have been afforded all of the time in the world!

nah I think the medias real target will be the club itself, Hull's ownership is fucking up horrifically and you can see why Bruce got out before the start of the season.

Was listening to Talksport in the car a couple of days ago. They had Phil Brown on and they discussed the managerial situation at Hull.

'So, Phil, what do you make of the sacking of Mike Phelan at Hull?'

PB: 'well it's always disappointing to see a young manager, at the start of their coaching career discarded like that, it's never a surpise'.

:dowie:

He's 54 FFS.

And was shit, should Hull just keep a manager on for the sake of that managers career and screw the clubs position.  These "English" managers seem to think they should be above criticism or sackings.  Not one of them has done a bad job, ever.

Phelan did a decent job imo

13 points from 20 games. No wins in last 9. Shite job and they were going down. Right to roll the dice.

Mind, they'll still go down with that squad i reckon.

 Decent job is being pretty kind when they're bottom of the league.

He did a decent job. They sold one of their best players to us and bought nobody decent to improve on a team which finished 4th in the Championship last season. They had also been unlucky in a lot of games lately

Think we're massively underestimating the effect of a manager when we're accepting 13 points from 20 games as a good job regardless of the circumstances like. That includes a really decent opening to the season too (winning their first 2 games, so 7 points in 18 games really).

They needed to make a change. Still likely to go down, though.

Usual 'why not give a British manager a chance' and 'what does he know about the Premier League?' tripe regarding this appointment on SSN.

Talking about a club that have just sacked a British manager with about as much experience of the Premier League as you can possibly get. He left them rock bottom of the league.

I do think that Phelan was a bit unlucky mind. Their record was shit, but I expected far worse from them considering.
