The Managerial Merry Go Round™ – Dyche leaves Everton

What Potter did before coming to England was exceptional, reminded me of Howe in his early Bournemouth days. I can't draw parallels beyond that as it was lower league stuff in weird leagues that I've only seen the results of on Wikipedia, not up close stuff like I've seen of Howe's early career, but I've always thought of things went south with Howe, I'd like to give Potter a chance.

Not for me - the day we got took over I genuinely said to my dad that I hope we get Howe or poche. Delighted we got Howe but I’d still be happy with Poche if things went bad with Howe.

Then sacked the manager who got them there and won it, they deserve what they get.

There is a ceiling to Moyes ball and West Ham want to play football a certain way. I agree that Moyes time was up, they got his replacement completely wrong though.

Probably right about the ceiling but they’d be happy with that now, just googled his West Ham record now - “Moyes record is better than the previous four West Ham managers records (best record out of last six managers now) and better than seven full time managers since 2003, he also led them to sixth winning a record setting 19 games for West Ham also achieving a record setting +15 goal difference for West Ham.”

His ceiling seems highest ceiling they had since the turn of the Century at a glance (I don’t follow them thick and thin to know details).

On a similar tip, I think Klopp gets a lot of performance credit actually due to whoever out of the Moneyball bods said "we must sign Salah". He wasn't Klopp's choice.

Klopp is a great manager, but people act like Liverpool never spent any money, they did, and I don't think there was much between them and the City teams that were neck and neck and years, Liverpool recruited insanely well as you said

Salah, Van Dijk, Allison and TAA are / were arguably the best in the world in their position, and Premier league greats imo. Then prime Mane, Robertson, Firmino etc.

Makes me rate Pep even more to be honest considering he dominated them in terms of trophies

Potter was very good for Brighton. Moving what they were under Hughton to what he left them in was superb stuff. It's then provided the base for future managers to come in and the platform be minimum mid table. The signings and set up higher above at Brighton key to enable that.

When he went to Chelsea, it was just a poor move. Batshit club, where there's no principles to their signings and even though it was better players, the team was a mess. Too many and even Maresca going to encounter that 2nd half of season after continuing the form Poch left Chelsea in.

I like Potter as a coach, but I think he's again gone to a poor choice club. Who are Chelsea on a smaller scale. Scatter gun approach to signings regularly, impatient board and fans will turn if they're not onboard in first few months. Not going to be provided the time.

Man City squad is routinely deeper and despite being multiclub they pay 15% more in wages - probably closer to 30% more like for like.Only Man City first team squad and coaching staff are calculated as Man City FFP costs, everybody else.. leadership team etc. is accounted for under City Group. Everyone at Liverpool contributes to their wage.

That 15-30% in wages is the difference between the 2 clubs imo.

Yeah, they have spent a shit load. The thing is they try to justify it by saying they sold players. Well yeah, in recent years those players have went for inflated fees to Saudi. You have still been spending a shit load of money.

Paul Merson. "If West Ham lose at the weekend, their season is over".

What point is he even making?

He thinks they should have given JL more time and that they've only sacked him because they've seen how well Forest have done. [emoji38]

It's the ramblings of a mad man. Does he have any idea how a modern football club is run?

Why am I even bothered. He's such a moron. [emoji38]

Think Potter is a great appointment. Forward thinking coach who did a tremendous job at Brighton.

Mourinho odds on for Everton. Would keep them up at least, which is all they really need for now. Unlikely imo but could still go down under Dyche.

Has Mourinho ever managed a team that isn't expected to compete at the top end? Would be interesting to see how he gets on. His style might be suited to dragging a club into the top half.

The problem with replacing Moyes is that you need to get someone properly good in otherwise they'll not really do any better than him. He's a good but not elite manager, and there just aren't very many of them out there. But he's also not so good that people are averse to gambling on a new manager.

I think Potter could be better than him, seems a smart appointment.

Rob Edwards officially leaves Luton, with possibly the nicest statement from a chairman i've seen:

Quote

Town CEO Gary Sweet said: “As with all decisions to part company with a manager, this has been a tough decision to arrive at, together with Rob, who has conducted himself with great professionalism and dignity throughout his two years at the Club, and again this week as we have genuinely come to a mutual conclusion.

“Rob has given us some of our greatest days to celebrate as Hatters. Those two barnstorming derby victories at Kenilworth Road, the play-off final at Wembley and our season in the Premier League will live with us forever and in doing so Rob has earned himself a legendary status.

“Results this season, especially away from home, have clearly not been acceptable and while we have supported Rob and his team in every possible way, we all felt that action was required to rectify this with 20 league matches still to play.

“It is typical of Rob’s humility that he also recognised this himself and leaves not just as a former manager, but as a trusted friend who has left his mark on every player and member of staff.

“Rob and his family will always be welcome visitors to Kenilworth Road. The door is always open. On behalf of the board, I would like to give him our heartfelt thanks for two years of tireless work and so many memories, wishing him every success for his future career.”

To be expected, he can have little complaints as they have been so anti football.

However unless they have someone coming in, might be abit of a risk. As shit as he is, they were probably never going down under him.
