Imagine 96/96 was ro repeat itself but we were to come 1st instead of 2nd next season? Really think no European campaign, a good window that helps to solve our current issues and a well prepared amd problem free pre-season under our belt will give us a good chance of having a good season ahead. We had a pretty weak season before then95/96 title tilt, similar to this one. Hopefully, we get this one out of the way on Sunday and look ahead to a brighter future.

Yeah, although it was just a weak second half of the season then, we were flying up until the second leg of the Bilbao tie. So there was more of a base to build on then.

Chelsea to launch legal complaint over Man City’s Enzo Maresca pursuit

Stamford Bridge club unhappy with the effect Italian’s abrupt departure had on their season which could result in no European football

I'll get the popcorn in.

It's hard to see what Maresca has done to deserve such a big job, seems like pepotism.

Won the Europa Conference League?

Got another 3 years of Chelsea having that 'word champions' monstrosity on the front of their shirts because of Diet Pep

To play Devil's advocate, I don't see what he's done wrong to get the criticism he does. He did well at Chelsea despite being under basket case Boehly.

He'll be a success at City.

Maresca is a capable manager.

But he's not Pep. Pep had 6 seasons out of 7 getting 86+ points. Maresca can do well but he won't do that.

Unless they appointed Klopp or Luis Enrique their next manager was always going to be a downgrade.

Conte would have been a shoo-in for the Man City job before the hair transplant

Any chance Iraola stays on with them if they get CL? Seems mad to get them there and then leave.

94/95 wasn’t similar to this one tbf - we just had a bad final month of the season.  We also knew that the obvious issues in the side (no LW with Sellars constantly injured; no top CF after the sale of Cole; a new GK) would be fixed in the summer.  The team still looked good and played well.

This season has been pretty awful, and there is a lot of fixing needed.

Maresca going to Man City reminds me of when Moyes replaced Ferguson, it was pretty obvious it was never going to work but they went ahead and did it anyway and we all know how that turned out. It just looks like a totally bizarre appointment basically because he is mates with Pep. I will be very surprised if he wins the league with them which is what the expectation will be.

At the same time, they have a good team, and with the right recruitments in the summer, can be that you don't have to be a "great" manager to lead them to the title. But will be interesting I guess, with Pep you just knew they would win or be thereabouts, now it's more up in the air.

Definitely not the season that comes to mind for me when thinking of a similar one to this apart from the boring games against Manchester City. There's not many I'd put above 94/95 for results/performances/entertainment probably not even 96/97.

This season has been more reminiscent of the Dalglish, Gullit, Souness seasons. Just middling.

Don’t know about that he got champions league football with Chelsea , won a trophy, won the world club thing and it tailed off partly because of their mad recruitment which isn’t his fault

Champions league is the absolute bare minimum for Chelsea though , that club would cup is just a glorified friendly tournament.
