The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Vitor Pereira to Wolves

Recommended Posts

I always think this, but it probably would have been better for Martin to have lost the playoff final to Leeds last season. They'd be winning more games, towards the top of the table, playing good football and probably under minimal pressure - doubt he would have got much of a pay rise either, but as it is, much tougher job, always likely to be in and around the bottom 3/4, and under constant pressure and scrutiny.

Quote

Southampton manager Russell Martin on the Ben Brereton Diaz and Fabian Schar incident: “When he (Ben Brereton Diaz) stands still and then (Fabian Schar) leans with his head, you give someone the opportunity to make the most of it. “I guarantee their players would have done the same.

Haha. See ya dickhead.

Wolves have enough talent in that squad to stay up with the right appointment.

Don't think anyone would keep Southampton up. Where do you even go? Bring in a progressive, forward thinking manager and carry on getting hammered, or bring in a conservative pragmatist for a bunch of players not used to playing that way.

Leicester are the ones that'll struggle for me though. Not sure why they appointed Van Nistlerooy. They've went from Maresca, to Cooper and for some reason RVN. Suggests they have no clue what they're doing

Speak to any Leicester fan about Rudkin and Khun Top. Glowing reviews aplenty.

Premier League Coach GIF by MolaTV

Colleague of mine is a UEFA B License coach and mentioned the lack of English managers available when the England job came up.

He basically puts it down to firstly the cost. To get all your licenses up to UEFA Pro, it's the best part of £20,000. Then you throw in the reluctance to hire managers who haven't played the game professionally and this is the result.

We really need to start investing in coaches in this country, the whole hiring ex-professional players thing is clearly not working.

And whoppers like Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard can walk into jobs, demonstrate that they're not good enough then sail off into the sunset with a nicely padded pension fund...then you get tools like Ince spouting that he doesn't get manager jobs because he's black. No mate, it's cos you weren't very good at managing and showed it over a few clubs.

It's always been a 'jobs for the boys' culture and probably always will be...hell even Pep wouldn't have had a chance of managing Barcelona if he hadn't been one of their best players in the first place.

For every great player that becomes a great manager there 10 great players who ultimately end up being bobbins.

Combination of right mentality, right time, right place is what's needed but that's the gold dust everyone's chasing

Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard didn't swan off into the sunset after being shit, tho, they carry on getting gigs.

Ince, on the other hand, hasn't.

Maybees THAT'S because he's black.

Who knows 🤔

Gerrard was great at Rangers really, done all that could be asked of him, it wasn’t that mad he got the Villa job and now he in the arse end of football, he doesn’t really match the profile of the other two, he's not really failed that much
