Newcastle United 0 - 1 Arsenal - 29/12/13 - post-match reaction from page 33

A loss from a shitty little set piece goal. Arsenal were there for the taking from the off and we've wasted a good opportunity. Neither team deserved to win it, mind. Rubbish match.

Cowardly Pardew again.

Arse were there for the taking but the manager didn't have the bottle to go for it.

The Hatem sub changed us for the wrong reasons. Looked unsettled since he came on, and he could be selfish as f*** at times.

More like the Shola sub tbh. We started smashing it to him every time we got the ball instead of trying to play football. Hatem only got the ball a few times and created 3-4 attacks.

Shola helped win a lot of balls up top tbf. Wasn't a fan of Sissoko on the left just to accomodate Hatem. Yes, he did create but again, tried to win it on his own.

That is EXACTLY why HBA should not start every game. I coach kids with more awareness of what's going on around them...

Aye, righto.

Could have gone either way. Looked a penalty on an idiotic push by Flamini. Anita was also bundled over (Sky said Sissoko, but I think it was the red boots) about 10 seconds before the Tiote foul they scored from. Obviously we cocked up on the marking, but no more than Chesney did on his clearance.

So unlucky on the whole.

Ben Arfa creates things.

I dont blame him going for goal with that shot, no one else was available and no one had gambled on any crosses we had put in for the prior 80 minutes.

The shot he took at the end, their keeper was off their line and again I can see why he went for it.

People having a go at Ben Arfa.

Created something every time he had the ball, tbh. Decision-making very sloppy.

Aye, he was trying to hard.

Jesus

Glad you noted that because i was just.......argh.....

Guy created more than anyone else in half the time. Granted he was a bit greedy but if he wasn't greedy he wouldn't be Hatem.

Tough to take, because it was a good performance. Arsenal used all their "experience" to good effect, which is the way the game is these days.

We didn't do much wrong, restricted their chances really well whilst occupying some great positions in their half. The goal was a shoddy one to give away, Williamson caught the wrong side of Giroud. Lacked a real goalthreat ourselves though, and when we finally did get two strikers on - Shola had the requisite aggression but no ability to back it up, whilst Remy had all the ability but not the aggression to get on the end of anything.

Tiote was a beast. Sissoko faded a bit. Cabaye was a bit disappointing for me, but not awful - just a little overly-ambitious at times. HBA had his heart in the right place (which is a weird thing to say for a footballing cameo ) and you could see it was desperate to get us a goal, but his zeal probably got the better of him on or two occasions, when a calmer head may have yielded better results. Thought he was right to take on the shot at the end, as only Shola was in there (and well marked), but just took it too quickly.

Disappointed with the outcome, but a performance the team can be proud of - hopefully it didn't take too much out of then. :(

Never thought we looked like scoring all day. Soft as shite in the box, and there's never enough black and white stripes in there.

s***. The ref sucked. We weren't good enough going forward. A draw would have been fair. Sky are trying to say that Arsenal turned in a champions performance here but I thought they were pretty average.

Nothing suggests to me that they will win the league, tbh.

They never looked like scoring from open play, and it comes from a free kick that shouldn't have been. Could've opened up earlier, but this tactic has worked three times now, so no complaints about how we set up.

Agree. Theres always an assumption when we lose that there MUST have been a better way to play the game. We may have scored if we'd been more attacking, we may have been opened up by them far more easily also.
