IMO he's perfect for Spurs in any case. Would have more money and it would be better for his career. Although it didn't hurt Milner's England chances. I thought re-signing with Villa was dumb. For a start, you didn't have to accept the huge amount of money we offered you for Bent, but you did. We had to accept it, as he had a release clause. Do that or keep a player who'd quite clearly had his head turned. That clause didn't have to be put in the contract but it was. Same scenario. Both will move/did move for money.
