Strikes me that Delph may have said to Sherwood - "Will we improve and will we keep Benteke?" to which he said "Yes and Yes". With Benteke gone, he may have thought "ah well, fuck it" and gone.

If Benteke is going to Liverpool, Delph will have known this last week, as will Benteke.

In the case of Delph the whole thing is made a bit more galling by the fact we spent 8m on him, watched him be almost permanently injured for three years, gave him a new contract, stood by him, got him into the England squad, and watched him do this.

I wouldn't blame him if he'd just sat out his contract and fucked off to Man City, but all this other shit around the transfer, totally avoidable.

Fernando played over 30 games for them last season. I'd have Delph over him.

Different roles, not particularly sure i'd want Delph being the last line of defense in midfield and covering everything Yaya doesn't do defensively.

Fernandinho would be DM.

Anyway

He's bang average as well. Villa are bigger than this cunt, sadly it seems modern football isn't!

Brummie, I hope you're not too despondent about this because he's fucking typical of English talent at the moment, massively nowt special!

Villa are in trouble. Not because they have sold there two, (three if you include Vlaar), best players but because they have not improved.

If you don't go forward, other teams catch you up. That's why we are worried about signings.

Villa need to hope for two things, some good management (team spirit from Sherwood) and a couple of inspired signings. FWIW, I think Sherwood is capable of the former but I doubt Villa are capable of the latter.

Look at it this way Villa have to replace Vlaar, Delph, Benteke and Cleverley to break even. Then they need to improve.

We don't need to replace Vlaar to change much - last season he was either injured or s****.

We've brought in Richards and Gueye - who looked to me like a Delph replacement when he signed. We've still got a lot of signings to make, but our form under Sherwood was totally different to that under Lambert, and far more representative of the squad.

Going back to Vlaar, though, it makes me laugh when I hear the media or fans of other clubs go on about how we'll miss him. Ask Villa fans, you'll get a different story.

I always think you should take note of what a club's fans say about a player, a manager or their team because they will have watched them closer than any other club's fans or media pundits.  The soundbites cleverly dropped into the media by a manager often form the media and therefore other fan's opinions.

People need to stop pretending that anyone is loyal to their club. No matter what they say. And especially when it's just a kid you bought from another team who had no ties to your team in the first place. Words mean nothing, it's all just business to them, neverending gesturing to get the biggest payday.

He was class for the Netherlands so people think he must be class for Villa too. But he has been unnoticable to me in the PL. Not sure if due to injury or mediocrity, but either way, I'm sure they'll survive without him.*

*literally survive, not survive in the PL. I'm far from sure about that.

Aye that's fair enough Brummie. I was aware of his injury record but I thought he was a bi character at Villa.

Wallace above is bang on correct.

The media get their heads around something they see as fact. Another one for us was that we were "a strong counter attacking team" and had "lots of pace up front". We were a very good counter attacking team, yes. Under O'Neill, over five years ago. As for the pace up front, Weimann has none, Benteke doesn't have a huge amount, and Agbonlahor has lots but doesn't have a brain.

We'd hear it all the time.

It's much like the way the media talk about you lot and go on about how you won't accept cockneys, or you drove Pardew out or whatever.

Vlaar wasn't rubbish for us, far from it, but the problem is, as was said, he had an amazing world cup. That came after a mediocre season for us, and was followed by more mediocrity and further long term injuries.

I see he needs another knee operation this summer, so he's currently without a club and has got knee knack yet again.

I often find it's a lot easier to perform at end of season tournaments for lesser players who play less anyway. If you play less games than those at the very highest level in EL/CL than you will be fresher and the skill gap will diminish compared to middle of a season.

Vlaar is part of that, not saying he's crap or anything but it's amazing the amount of lesser players who perform well at these tournaments but when the actual season comes around their level is nowhere near the same miraculously.

Vlaar has been a first choice since he came here.

In three seasons, he's featured in 79 of 114 league matches for us. The ones he's not been in, he's been injured. I don't recall him ever getting dropped.

That's basically 70% of our league games, he's been fit for.

What's more, he seemed to specialise in injuries that'd do you a month at a time which made his appearances very fragmented.

Apparently him and his agent have turned up in Rome trying to get him in at Lazio.

'I was going to not be a c*** but then I realised how much money I could make by being a c***.'

 Of all the cunt moves footballers have done, i'm struggling to think of anything that genuinely tops this.

Sol from Spurs to Arsenal.

This is the statement on our official site. The curtness of it, for the club captain, says it all, really.

Aston Villa can confirm that Fabian Delph has exercised the release clause in his contract and will join Manchester City.

We'd like to wish him success in his future career.
