I feel much worse about the club at the moment than I did when we went down, even worse than last season. Just goes to show that the league table isn't everything.

It's going to get worse before it gets better too. A bog standard XI fucking schooled us today, wait til Hazard, Willian and Oscar start running at us.

They're not a bog standard XI. They're better than their league position suggests. Di Canio made a complete mess of things.

Today, they looked relaxed and we looked nervous and under pressure. The expectation seemed to get to our players a bit, but it was always going to be a close game.

3-0 isn't a close game.

Not my point. It was always going to be competitive. They seemed in a better frame of mind for it than we did. We looked a bit frantic at times.

No, it isn't. What an odd thing to say

Also, as if the only difference between today and Norwich was Remy

It wasn't competitive at all

I'm not talking about the way the game went. I'm talking about the attitude of the players going into the game. Sunderland looked up for a contest. We didn't, for whatever reason.

That was down to management IMO. Poyet knows his mind and each player knew his role. Pardew keeps switching formations and playing styles because he loses his nerve and that reflects down to the playing squad.

No confidence in the manager to get it right. Nor did he fwiw.

I think it's laughable and sad  that so many are analysing the boil, that was the result today, and not addressing the tumour that is killing the club.

Aye, that would be a fresh and interesting topic. Who starts the thread?

Wullie is quick out today, we got beat.

Pardew's fault, awful tactics, awful mentality and awful performance. As much as I think the blame lies on Pardew, there's no need for not one of out players to get no higher than a 4 out of 10. Disgraceful both those on and off it, complete bottlers!

your feeling generous

Possibly, think Krul saved them over a lower score however.

TF's match reports makes for desperate reading and again, it's hard to disagree with any of it;

http://www.true-faith.co.uk/match-report-newcastle-united-0-3-sunderland-st-james-park-1st-feb-2014-1245pm-premier-league-att-52280/

Have you ever felt more depressed as a Newcastle fan?  I’ve been following United home and away for 30 years.  I’ve been to Elm Park, the Manor Ground, Leeds Road, the Abbey Stadium and Broadhall Way with my dad, the bloke I love more than anything in the world, the bloke who has shaped me as a human being, driving us to Prenton Park, Boundary Park and Millmoor.  Hours together, hours following Newcastle through thin and thinner.  Hours dreaming of the day we had a football team we could be proud of.

There have been days, years even when everything has clicked on the pitch and in the city.  I felt as proud of NUFC as I ever have when we were standing on the edge of the abyss with eight men at Derby twenty-odd years ago and the noise from the away end was as loud as I’ve heard as I did when we were scoring our third against Barcelona in the Champions League all those years ago.

We’ve had our ups and downs and there have been days when you felt it couldn’t get any worse.  Three nil down at Barnsley, losing at Wigan under Souness, life couldn’t get any worse, right?  Well, no actually, not right.

In the 1000+ games that I’ve gone to watch Newcastle United, I can’t think of a time when I’ve been more ashamed to follow the club than I did today.  I won’t even bother with a match report as such – they scored three and if they had upped their game they could have scored a dozen.  Sunderland, our deadliest rivals, came and took the piss for the second season running.

Ben Arfa, a player I have eulogised for the past two years was a disgrace.  Disinterested, anonymous.  We know that Pardew is a fucking idiot, we know that he hasn’t got the vaguest idea how to play a man of your ability.  We know all that, but how can we forgive you not giving two shits about our team?

Santon was the worst of a very bad lot.  Again, a player I’ve defended repeatedly, putting in a performance that was absolutely beyond the pail.  I’d be happy if he never pulled on a black and white shirt again. Anita?  Celebrating the complete pinnacle of mediocrity.  Sissoko?  Three good games out of a hundred.  I felt sorry for Sammy Ameobi, that’s as bad as we’ve got.  The kid was the best player we had and he is absolute dogshit.  His brother?  Jesus.  Just Jesus.

I don’t mind getting beat and honestly, I don’t even mind losing to them.  They were the better side again and it is a blessing that it was only three.  If you’ll allow me this indulgence, I’ll tell you what I do mind.  I mind walking down Stowell Street with my dad after the game and watching a bloke in his sixties who has no prospect of going to the match to watch a United side he can be proud of with his son.

I resent Ashley. I hate him truth be told and the same can be said for Pardew.  Chancer.  Shit player, shit manager.  I would love to think that he wakes up every morning and realises how lucky he is but he won’t.  You don’t get us, Alan, not really.  For all your slimy bullshit in front of the cameras, you’ll never know what it means and I wouldn’t even give a shrug if you got sacked in the morning.  Dispensable.  Just like us.  How does it feel?

I feel as powerless as the rest of you do.  Ashley will stay there as long as he’s making money out of us and we’ll either have to like it or lump it.  And you know what?  After however many trips away watching the lads, however many ups and downs, I’m almost at the point where if it were the latter, then so be it.  Cheers, Mike.  Cheers, Alan.  You’ve got me.

Congratulations to the Mackems.  I hope you have a great weekend in London in a month’s time, you deserve it.  Equally, I obviously hope you get stuffed.  But more than anything, I hope we get the teams we deserve.  Both of us.

Team – Krul 5, Debuchy 1, Williamson 3, S Taylor 2, Santon 0 (Dummett 5) Sissoko 1, Anita 0 (Marveaux 1), Tiote 3, Ben Arfa 0, SAMMY 5 (De Jong 1), Shola 0

Ref – Dowd – 6 – Barely noticed him

Our Fans – 5 – Depressed

Their Fans – 7 – Happy, obviously, but in the circumstances, I’d have expected them to be swinging from the proverbial chandeliers.  Are we that easy?

Keep the Faith

Gareth Harrison

 Very good.

Everything that happened today, all the shit performances from players and manager and Ben Arfa is the scapegoat? ???

Hard to disagree with?, bollock IMO.  Same as saying Sunderland could have scored loads more if they upped their game.  Has this fucker watched Sunderland recently.  They upped their game to the nth degree already.

Hard to disagree with?, utter bollocks more like.  Same as saying Sunderland could have scored loads more if they upped their game.  Has this fucker watched Sunderland recently.  They upped their game to the nth degree already.

I agree that singling out Ben Arfa was harsh and a bit unnecessary actually, you make a fair point there but I think he's just frustrated because he knows the lad is capable of more and he's all we hung our hat on today.  As you say, that's not his fault.

I do agree with him that sunderland could have scored as many as they fancied today though, embarrassingly they appeared to let their foot off the gas at 2-0 but we still looked wide open every time they attacked us.  I do honestly think they could have had 5 or 6 if they kept at us the way they did the first half hour, but they didn't need to.

I love today

Sorry lads

Well done. Your chairman acted when it was needed and that deserved just reward.

This, Tron, is the crux of the whole matter.

Short realised that he had made a mistake with Di Canio and risked a lot of flak from the LMA and media by firing him and appointing Poyet. There was a time when people on here were speculating that Poyet was bound for NUFC but they obviously don't realise how greedy and determined to stick with his niggardly transfer policy that Ashley is...there is NO way he would appoint anyone who wants a say in recruitment of players. Sunderland took the gamble and its paid off big-time for their fans..they are in a Cup Final, still in the FAC and are playing with no little style and certainly with organization. Its actually quite funny because Ashley always fancies himself as a gambler, but Short has trumped him well and truly this time..

Unless there is change at the top, NUFC could be the second side in the NE for years ahead. I remember Alan Shearer telling the people at Sunderland that 'their turn would come' after they presented him with a memento on his retirement after we had beaten them  at the SOS....I bet he didn't realise that it would be partly because NUFC committed suicide...!

For the people having a go at HBA, have a look at this:

Krul

Debuchy

Williamson

S.Taylor

Santon

Tiote ©

Sissoko

Anita

Ben Arfa

Shola Ameobi

Sammy Ameobi

How many creative, attacking players do you see?  How easy would it be to shut down that team as an attacking force?  8 defenders, HBA, Sammy and Shola.  Sammy is an unproven kid still learning the game and Shola is an immobile sack of potatoes.  They had to cut one player out of the game to utterly nullify us.

Fuck it, we are still 8th with 37 points at the beginning of February, a position I bet many of you would have accepted given the very near relegation of last season. Yes there have been real downs this season in terms of the 2 mackem results but there have still been more positives than last season  - Man Utd, Tottenham away to name a few. Am I accepting mediocrity..probably but lets not pretend Sunderland are "going places", several of their players are loaned and if they get a decent offer for any of their players who are performing they will cash is just like us ala Mignolet, Henderson, etc. Pardew is awful but believe me it could be a lot worse, can you honestly say if we sacked him you trust Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley to find a decent replacement..no at best we'll end up with a sideways step to another cheap out of work "yes" man.

Didnt see a second of the game due to having to work. One thing i did learn from working in and around yesterdays derby aftermath is that the women who socialise in Sunderland are of a higher calibre than those who frequent the Big Market, A surprising fact but one that i guarantee is 100% true.
