Looking forward to Mourinho blaming this result on the red card.

4/7 penalty not given in the first was to blame

10/11 poor referee

3/1 FFP is an unfair advantage

7/1 UEFA conspiracy

25/1 Platini

100/1 Qatar funding ISIS

1/6 David Luiz assaulted Costa in the first half and shouldn't play again

motta was great

Class player. Just doesn't waste the ball at all. Having him and Veratti in midfield almost completely nullified the sending off.

Motta has been one of the most underrated players in Europe for about 10 years imo.

How much longer before the PL lose a CL place and only the top 3 qualify? Obviously it'll be done on coefficients over the last few years and so forth but realistically how many years 'til 4 becomes 3? Got to be on the cards soon?

Nah, Italy are miles back although UEFA cup this year will help.

Got shitloads of comfort still. We're still 2nd in the country rankings.

Two consecutive nights, one of the most talented teams in Europe with one of its most accomplished managers plays with no energy whatsoever in front its own supporters. Hard to understand. Credit to PSG, great fight. I don't think they will win Ligue 1, but outside of Barca and Bayern they are as good as any team left in this competition.

Lol @ Portugal when 10/11 falls off next season. Netherlands could be well out of the top 10 within a couple of years if they don't buck their ideas up.

Thing is, English sides used to do so well in the CL because they played a higher pace than teams of often superior technical quality. That's completely gone, now. The coaches in charge of the top 4 - except Pellegrini with his shit defence - all promote a slower more patient pragmatic approach.

Guest VanBarduck

I'm not worried about the PL, I am definitely more concerned about England national team's future.

When have any of Italy, Portugal, France, or Russia sent three teams to the CL Knockout stage? The teams are not going deep, but they also generally don't embarrass themselves.

Some funny comments on http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/30498544

Stuart Mitchell: English football has fallen so far down the pecking order its criminal, If that's the best England has, we wont win CL for ages.

Vinodh Natarajan: Over 2 ties PSG deserved their win, as far as Premier League being miles off, yes I would say that's true as well.

Paul Collins: And the premier league isn't the best. It's just the richest and that's the problem. Get paid too much.

As others have said, when the Premier league is mentioned by some as the best league in the world they usually mean entertainment wise (the bottom team beating the top, etc) rather than the quality of the teams in it.

As for "English" football, most of the teams are mainly made up of foreign players and are usually managed by people not from England.

The owners of PSG are just doing what the owners of Chelsea and Man City have done, I.e. trying to buy success.

Liverpool and Chelsea both got far in Europe on the back of playing desparately pragmatic stuff. Arsenal got to the final in 2006 by winning 2 legged ties 1-0 on aggregate. Your argument only really works in favour of Man Utd imo, where Fergie really struck the balance well in his latter years.

Don't kid yourself, Liverpool turned it up when they needed to under Rafa. Same with Arsenal in 2006. Our teams don't have that Premier League 6th gear to shift up into now.

Fiver says no cunt blames man to man marking for Chelsea's loss tonight despite it being at fault for both goals.

Genuinely think Terry is marking Cahill for the second goal. Watching the ball, feels/sees 'his man' making a run in front of him and goes with it (even gives him a little push) whilst his actual man is 3 yards behind him looping in a superb header.
