Guest
Really hope that was a sign of things to come. He doesn't need to be fast. His brain is worth a few yards anyway.
thenige
For as long as I can remember as a Newcastle fan there seems to have been a random foreign player who ends up becoming a bit cult-ish who I have this irrational hope they'll come good. One of the first I recall from my youth was of course Jon Dhal Tomasson who was quickly followed by Andreas Andersson. Then Silvio Maric came in to fill this gap. Eventually we had Hugo Viana. Then Albert Luque. There's probably been a few more who I just didn't care about as much (Gavilan, Bassedas, Cabella, Thuavin) but those above seemed to fit that mould. Now seemingly Siem has fallen into this spot of someone I was really excited about where it just hasn't quite happened. Unfortunately looking at the names I've listed none of them really did enough for the club, albeit Viana had the odd flash here and there. Would be surprised if he comes good and realistically would be surprised if we're in a position where De Jong's going to be starting more than a handful of games next year, even if we don't make the sort of signings we were expecting after promotion. I don't think Luque ever fell into that bracket. No, definitely not. Luque was a brilliant player prior to arriving in England. It should have been a very good signing and people were right to be excited and supportive. That injury just ruined him, though, Don't think any of them were awful players but none of them reached the heights that were expected of them when they signed for various different reasons. For that reason Luque is as relevant to that list as any of them. Every time they were on the team sheet I remember thinking 'this is the day they prove themselves' but it never quite happened. Even if Luque did once win me £100 with his goal against Palermo.

Yorkie
Classy turn and pass, like - miracle how it managed to squeeze through all those defenders. Lovely finish from Gayle as well, has to be said. He'll be fine next season, when he gets space (which happens less in the PL, granted), he's very dangerous.

louistoon
He'd cost upwards of 15 million in todays market if you ignored his recent injury spell. hopefully he can stay fit as he's the only person I'd currently be content with filling the number 10 role. M1tche
From the day he signed I was excited about playing for us, hopefully he can keep injury free, which is a big hope. If he does he will be class for us though
KaKa
Love this guy's game man. Would be such a great player to support Gayle. So much intelligent use of the ball, and is a goal threat too and especially good in the air. Please God, keep this man fit for us this season. KaKa
How did Diame look in a holding role yesterday? Kind of like the idea of him dropping deeper this coming season, and playing more of central midfield role like he did initially at Wigan. Don't think he quite has the legs to get up and down as he has in more recent seasons with Hull.

Dokko
If he had a bit more pace and could last a season he wouldn't be playing for us, he wouldn't even entertain the phone call.

Was he always so injury prone? I don't think so. My memory suck but I'm sure it was him who destroyed man citeh in Europe and the buzz was he'd join one of the elite. Pilko
I really hope Rafa gives him a proper chance like. I think he's got the quality in that no.10 area that nobody else we currently have can match.
Kanj
The injuries since he joined us have really derailed his career - he's a really intelligent football player and very talented from the random Dutch football I used to watch...wish he could stay fit and return to that form, he was such a good player back at Ajax. Dave
https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/siem-de-jong-gaat-voor-kans-bij-newcastle-maar-er-zijn-opties Siem de Jong has not yet engaged in a departure from Newcastle United. The midfielder is training after a year having played on loan at PSV with England again and hoping for a new opportunity under manager Rafael Benítez. What exactly are the plans Benítez with De Jong, is still unclear. "We do not know. The preparation has just started and it is still new round, new opportunities. Siem has never made a secret of it his intention to still succeed at Newcastle, "agent Louis Laros told Voetbal International on. Yet Laros also realizes that the chances are quite present to Benítez choose again for others. "Newcastle have not bought a lot of new players, so I expect that there still will be some players in the near future. The club always works. Then wait and see if there is the prospect for Siem. He has never really worked under Benitez, so he must now try to take his chance. " When the attacking midfielder to leave, he does well not to worry as Laros. "We obviously take account of that scenario and therefore continuously collect options. Those options are there now, there is regularly informed Siem. But any transfer is not easy. You have to deal with his salary, the asking price and the prospect of another club. " Some British media reported that Newcastle De Jong has been offered at PSV, which could take him permanently this time. "That's absolute nonsense," Laros is clear, however. "I really know nothing of. Whether the club would have done behind my back, but that seems strong because I have good contacts with Newcastle. "
