So Ashley can't demand 12million or something absurd. Not sure if Palace are that flush though. As in, rich enough to buy his existing contract and pay him enough to make it worth his while to leave which would presumably require a lengthy contract too. Only way to get out of it would be for Rangers to pay his contract up which they can't afford to do and if they did by way of a loan from Ashley would be under heavy scrutiny. He's only managed in a pub league as well with a team that (prior to their fall from grace) had virtually zero competition. And he's an ex mackem.
