NUFC kits & merchandise

Unless it was pre-planned, I honestly find it baffling that somehow Castore managed to design three kits - which the club then signed off - without thinking where a clash might occur.

Aye, loads of clubs are doing these days. Norwich a few years ago had 3 different kits, all yellow and green.

Fulham used to be notorious for it, I remember they had to create a one off kit against us once, Robert scored with what can only be described as an overhead bicycle back-heal.

The FA really should clamp down on it, it’s just became a money making exercise where clubs make multiple kits and are ‘forced’ to create another one, where kids etc will just want all of them.

In the Canadian Premier League, all clubs must have an away kit that is not like their home kit, meaning kit clashes are mostly avoided.

I would very easily be able to distinguish between the teams whatever one of our 3 kits we wear. Needless shitshow and cynical money making. The kit and merch part of the new version of the club is thus far the worst aspect, coming across as unprofessional and cynical.

do you genuinely believe this was intentional? I take it the Ladies team having to wear training gear for a pre-season match was intentional too?

they're incompetent, man. people need to stop making excuses for them.

As I have said many times in this thread, I generally really like Castore, I have had 4/5 things from them, they're all of really high quality and never had an issue with them. whether this was planned or not we'll never know, but given loads of clubs do it nowadays I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about kit clashes, it never stopped teams in the olden day who all played in black and white.

It’s already being released as a warm up top. It literally says it in the article. This isn’t some clever ploy by castore it’s more likely stupidity & bad planning that’s causing this to happen

I'd say labelling it as "one-off" in the advertising banner that is the tweet, is cynical though.

I think because it’s still run by Castore, who just seem like a very tinpot operation.

Last time we wore a one-off shirt to avoid a colour clash. It ended up being made available for mass release by popular demand (in a reveral of convention).

It was also green. Which will send people absolutely nuts now.

Would wearing the home strip be any different to this v - that looks a lot like Brightons shirt now

People were absolutely clamouring for them- going round all the club outlets- back when NUFC has little outlet stands in places like Blyth Asda

Asics green with thin blue stripes

Have the retro version, bought from the club show when they still sold them, hearby proving I am way more hip than the rest of you.

I came from a very working class background, but back in those days me and my brother would have every kit, goalie tops, training kit, the lot. Don’t know how my mam and dad afforded it. If my kids wanted the same now we’d be bankrupt!

I can't believe our fourth kit of the season is still largely going to clash with Brighton. 'Got blue? Damn. Got white? Damn. Let's mix blue and white together, they won't have that'.

I know right [emoji38]

I feel like the simplist solution would be Castore literally and quickly putting together 30-40 match quality black shirts with the sponsors, badges and numbers and having the lads wear that plain black shirt with the current home shorts and socks or have our guys wear white socks if Brighton have blue socks etc.

Such a joke man - there's hardly any teams we need to wear an away kit against, and one of the ones we actually do they make TWO away kits that also clash

Also that 'fourth' kit that we're wearing - it has SJP on it twice right? The bottom and the top. That irks me.

Canny article on kit sponsors from when the PL first started, the deals today are crazy compared to back then and gives a glimpse into the kind of deals we could make going forward: https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Ftheathletic.com%2F3469683%2F2022%2F08%2F03%2Fbeer-photocopiers-and-more-photocopiers-the-premier-leagues-first-sponsors%2F%3Fsource%3Duser_shared_article

Good read that. Apart from the numbers it's interesting to be reminded of who was, actually, in the league when it started. Prompted me to look for this...https://www.footballkitarchive.com/newcastle-united-kits/#1980s

1974 Umbro tops  :smitten: Not that I've had had a toon top
