One game doesn't make a decision. Last time Bellingham played there he was anonymous too. You're wasting both their best attributes playing them where he is.

No choice has he - it’s not as if he hasn’t got a naturally left sided player on the bench whose had the season of his life on the bench

I always thought the answer was to allow one to go and one to sit. So a double pivot in the number 10 position.

 

Rice has to sit. He's decent going forward but for England he needs to be the shield. Anything else and we have problems.

As much as Trent will always be a huge threat with his delivery Id always prefer someone who’s better at build up play. He has the ability to turn tight games with his delivery though so even if it stunts our play he can make up for it

That number 10 is so awkward in Southgate's setup. Especially because Kane drops into those spaces.

 

Good thing about Bellingham is he will look to make runs forward when Kane drops.

 

The system on a whole is just clunky. Think Foden is more likely to have an impact from wide, in a bit more space.

At the end of the day, playing Terence Trent Arnold in midfield is so wrong.  First of all, and most importantly, he is NOT a midfielder.  Secondly, he's a really really average footballer........... He's going to score isn't he?

Yet again we had no natural width on the left. 

 

The amount of times England players get the ball and throw their hands up in the air because they don't know who to pass to is incredible. I genuinely mean it when I say I've never seen a side look so clueless as to how they're supposed to be playing. It's all over the shop.

 

Palmer and Gordon for Saka and Foden would be my shout. He absolutely cannot persist with this current system.

Genuinely think there'll only be enforced changes. Trent or Konsa for the suspended Guehi and perhaps Palmer for Trippier and Saka to LB again if he doesn't make it. Won't be any progressive changes by his own design, though. Hasn't got the arsehole to drop the bigger names.

I think Micah Richards probably nailed it on the latest Rest Is Football. The objective is to be tight defensively and rely entirely on moments from the world class quality. Ergo there's a total lack of any meaningful gameplan going forward, exacerbated by every single opponent sticking everything behind the ball. 

 

It seems like an incredibly high risk strategy and it nearly did us yesterday. Surely not sustainable.

I can recall Robson and Taylor being slaughtered, at a number of points, and Keegan got a fair bit of stick about tactics. Eriksson and McLaren received a load of abuse though more personal than tactical if I recall correctly. Hodgson had a tough exit losing 1-2 to Iceland, with all goals in first 18 minutes but unable to turn it around. Here’s our record in last 12 Euros.
