The only thing I can think and I'm grasping at straws here, is that he fancies someone a bit more defensively sound.

It'll be walking give-away-possession then do a red card Lewis-Skelly ahead of him in the squad though, which is crazy. Fair enough O'Reilly starting.

Nico O'Reilly is just as attacking as Hall but is more of a goal threat so you can't complain too much about him being first choice. Who's left though if Hall and Shaw aren't going? Spence?

No Gibbs-White is an absolutely shocking decision.

Tuchel probably calling up Lingard in his place.

Quansah? Stones? Henderson? Nah. That's it for me. Time for me to cash in on my Scottish heritage, family members who still live there, the 10 years I lived in Glasgow, that holiday I had on the Isle of Skye and those few times I went to watch Partick Thistle and Celtic games.

Mon Scotland! Anyone but England!

Couldn't blame Hall for just wanting to walk away now tbf

Hardly Newcastle's fault, it's his form here that put him in contention in the first place.

Lewis-Skelly you'd imagine.

I've been a fan of Henderson for years and think he's been underrated for his whole career, but I can't defend him being taken as a cheerleader in the context of so many other players missing out as well.

Would be so funny if we went and won it now.

We haven't won owt for 60years and that's picking all the supposed best and most talented players available.

It's the best team, not the best players, that matters.

No palmer or Foden either

Neither deserve it.

MGW certainly does, but he's been left out too [emoji38]

This is true, but we are picking players like Henderson as a cheer leader though.

Hard to argue he's even done that yet like, but with this being the squad rather than the team it's extra baffling

There's a lot to be said for having experienced players and "cheerleaders" in the background though. Helps to set the standards at training, to guide the younger players and to offer cool heads during the crazy moments.

Not really. Like I say, the players may compliment one another or perhaps gel better together or whatever. The proof will be in the pudding. I'm not saying he has got it right or he has got it wrong, but the focus shouldn't simply be whether he's took all the best players that's all. We had the "golden generation" and we've had multiple years of thinking we had the most talented squad but won nowt losing out to German sides and other sides with perceived lesser squads.
