Stifler
Lascelles worth £75m? Lascelles worth £75m? I never said he was worth £75m, I said that’s the price we should be putting on him. If the likes of Everton and Southampton can sell their young CB’s for between £50m-£75m then there is no reason why we shouldn’t be doing the same if anyone comes in for him. Guest firetotheworks
I really wish people would stop talking about money and how much 'we' should be asking for, instead of just talking about our players like. I'd perhaps understand if it wasn't just going straight into Mike Ashley's pocket.

I'd perhaps understand if it wasn't just going straight into Mike Ashley's pocket. Well I don’t think we should sell him, we need to be building a team, not dismantling one. That’s why a stupidly high price should be quoted if anyone comes in for him.

afar
I don't see the difference. A stupidly high price still goes to Mike Ashley. Exactly, a lot of folks still don't get this. We are not even spending the money the club generates anymore.
nufcjb
Could be a hell of a summer if this lad is constantly in the transfer column. I believe he would stay at least for another season but if we don't improve as a club, and he continues to play well, it will only be a matter of time before he becomes more ambitious. A call-up to the World Cup squad would probably double his value and Fat Mike will be hoping he gets on that plane to Russia. We need a takeover this summer with an ambitious owner who'll put Rafa and Lascelles as the future of the club. That'll make him more focus and appreciated even more that he already is right now. What a pair of manager and captain we bloody have. Shame about the owner.......for now.

The College Dropout
Whilst I want the best for him, it might not be the worst thing for us that Southgate doesn’t seem to fancy him. I think it is a bad thing. If we are a club that the England manager refuses to call up our good players then they must leave to secure a place. Tiresias
Definitely, albeit when Tarkowski is getting a call up from Burnley it's probably not that Southgate doesn't want to check anyone out beyond the usual suspects. He has earned a chance in the set up and more than anything I think he needs a season not in a relegation battling side which hopefully will be us next season. If we are a club that the England manager refuses to call up our good players then they must leave to secure a place. Yeah, that would be bad. But it’s a daft premise. It’s not the club he plays for which makes a difference. Look at some of the recent squad debutants from ‘unfashionable’ sides. Southgate doesn’t appear to rate Lascelles, irrespective of current shirt colour.

If he moved for big money to a Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd or Liverpool, he would be in the next squad absolutely guaranteed, England managers have repeatedly done it for years picking players because of who they play for and not on ability. Maybe, but he did an interview about how Rafa coaches him every week about aspects of his game, even down to his foot position when he lands from a jump. He won't get that sort of meticulous attention to detail anywhere else, so I'm hoping he will want to stay here and continue to improve for a while yet. So recently players have been picked because they play for Burnley, Stoke, West Brom, Bournemouth, Leicester, Swansea? Obviously not, but it hasn’t stopped them being picked. Of course Lascelles would have a better chance of playing for England if he played for the four sides you mention; because they are all better than England/more difficult to get a starting position. Southgate just doesn’t rate Lascelles as highly as many of our fans do.
Infinitely Content
Leeds is a canny city, I cannot understand why anyone would think otherwise. Blackpool mind... bloody hell, what a dive. Quite sad really. Yeah, Blackpool is like if Atlantic City was overrun by zombies. Those cheap flights to Spain broke its back. Always wondered where the dark undertones of the Bruce Springsteen song of the same name came from. Didn't realise Atlantic City was a glitzy casino boardwalk kinda thing. Streets lined with neon darkness it would seem.

Guest firetotheworks
I like Maguire on the ball like, but defensively not so much at the moment. FWIW, I think Lascelles' main strengths are leadership, organisation, and intelligence as he's not necessarily really gifted on the ball or at tackling, but he's smart and takes almost no risks, which negates the need for him to be those other things. I'd like him to get his recognition but I don't know whether he's ready to make the jump the more I think about it. He'd be less protected in a system not as rigid and fluid. Have a feeling he'd end up exposed. Say you had a Capello back as manager though he'd be made for it.
