Definitely not saying he’s a legend mate. Didn’t particularly like his antics or interview tonight either. But he was an important player for us for years and it would be churlish to deny that. I never took to him personally the way others did and thought he was as disappointing throughout his time here as he was impressive. For every 2 month high he had there was 6 months of disappointment either side imo but Tbf there was some very high highs for where we were at the time. His championship season, playing next to Diame under Rafa and a couple of months under Howe were impressive but his time outside of that left a sour taste in my mouth personally. Pretty clear that Rafa wanted to replace him 5 or so years ago and no doubt in my mind that he was right. Not all shelveys fault but obvious he’s just not a player capable of being part of a team to get us where we want to go.
