Jonjo Shelvey (now playing for Burnley)

Recommended Posts

How many times does he have to let down the people that put faith in them before they release he is a lost cause.

Think how much more effective Miggy and Hayden could be if they weren't making up for the spaces and mistakes shelvey creates by simply quarter arsing it.

Has to be replaced.

I actually thought he was decent on the ball today  off the ball though its like playing with 10 men, Soucek and Rice are light years ahead of him.

He ran around. Did nothing and got booked for a completely unnecessary foul. He’s a fraud and you’ve been duped.

Erm...I know. Off the ball it's like playing with 10 men when he's in the side, like I posted.

he did have a decent first 10 minutes mind. then was spent.

standing at the back taking it of our centre halfs and then rolling it back to them. what the actual fuck?

The fact that he sits all just about the entire game sitting five yards in front of the defence, means that any half decent team will always dominate the midfield. Does Jones actually have any say on who plays as I can’t imagine playing Shelvey fits into his tactical plans.

Professional footballer decides in his late 20s that post match beers isn’t good for him after finally listening to a nutritionist. [emoji38]

Honestly man, get the fuck out of my club you waste of skin.

I'm more curious as to why when you see on social media and in the press our 'possible future team' he is invariably in it. Yeah....can spend loads on Neymar, MBappe etc, but still got Shelvey in there.

People who don't watch him think he's good.

Jonjo Shelvey reveals subtle change as he targets Newcastle return against Tottenham

Newcastle United playmaker Jonjo Shelvey hopes to feature against Tottenham after making his return from injury for the under-23s

Jonjo Shelvey is eyeing a first-team return

Jonjo Shelvey has revealed he is working with a nutritionist as part of his latest recovery from injury as he aims to make his return against Tottenham.

The Newcastle United playmaker banked valuable minutes in the under-23s thumping home victory over Birmingham City on Monday night.

Shelvey is yet to feature for the Magpies since the opening-day defeat to West Ham as a result of successive calf complaints.

The midfielder completed 79 minutes of the Premier League 2 fixture before being replaced by Jack Young, and hopes to be in contention for Sunday's clash against Spurs.

Shelvey also outlined the changes he has made behind the scenes as part of his recovery, including the decision to 'cut out' post-match beers.

He told NUFC TV: "I assume we're going to sit down tomorrow [Tuesday], make a plan and hopefully be involved in some sort against Tottenham.

"Recover tomorrow, train again Wednesday and go from there. I feel good, I've been working with a nutritionist off the pitch so things are looking good.

"It's been teaching me what to eat before a game and after, and cut out the beers after a game!

"I'm going to go back now and get some carbs back in my body, and then go back to no carbs tomorrow."

The most recent calf complaint is the latest in a line of setbacks for Shelvey, who had only just managed his return from the same injury before being struck down again.

He added: "I had got myself back, trained and literally my other calf went straight away. I got back again, and the original one went again.

"It's been frustrating but it looks to be behind me which is the main thing. It's been frustrating watching the games on a Saturday at the stadium and seeing all the support."

The mood on Tyneside has been transformed by the long-awaited takeover, and St James' Park will be a sellout for the televised visit of Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

However, the Magpies remain winless so far this season and a fifth defeat in eight league games would only deepen relegation fears, despite the end of the Mike Ashley era.

Reflecting on the takeover announcement, Shelvey said: "It's been massive news for the fans and the club. It's terrific, but all that matters now is obviously Sunday. We've really got to put a show on for the fans and I'm sure they will be behind us as they usually are.

"I've heard it's a sellout, and I'm looking to hopefully playing a part in it."
