Guest neesy111
Best performance for a long time with him but it's still a liability having him and Willock in CM. Brentford went through us with ease at times.

Ideally we’d get rid of Shelvey from the team, find a competent anchor man type defensive midfielder who is mobile and can pass the ball quickly to free up a Willock and especially ASM while also giving the defence a certain level of protection. Which we have none of in midfield and asking Shlevey to be that and also be creative, well he’s a liability in general in both senses, great for the odd Hollywood ball though…

Made it clear that Shevley would be important to our success. And he responded. Hope the Jedi mind tricks can work long term. What Howe said was absolutely right, Shelvey is technically a very good footballer. We knew this already. The bleep tests mean there's nowhere to hide for any player, they will have to get to a certain fitness level or they will be out of the team. With Jonjo we've been here before, he's talked about a strict new fitness regime with Rafa, and just recently with Bruce where he said he was going to start cutting out the after match drinking. Who knows though. Maybe playing a more attacking brand of football will inspire him to keep it going this time.
Pilko
I had a feeling he'd look better this weekend based on us getting men forwards and having more to aim for and more movement around him. Pleasingly he seemed to put a shift in, I just think we maybe could have done with Hayden rather than Willock to do a little more dirty work. Still can't stand the moody workshy cunt but Saturday was the first green shoot we've seen from him in about four year.
Lush Vlad
Played a bit further forward, he seemed to have on average 4-5 players to pass forward to, as opposed to 1-2 and it was noticeable how much more effort he put in. It may well change under Howe's system. But currently, he seems to be the only midfielder at the club capable of passing the ball forward, whether that is long or short. He played really well. One thing I did notice, despite the improved work rate. Was that he would still regularly go in to press, when he was clearly not going to get there, due to how immobile he is. Then he would just get easily passed or dribbled round, whilst he is stood still and is completely taken out of the game. He has never been mobile and it seems like there have always been attitude problems throughout his career. But maybe with the right coach and fitness regime. He might manage to improve the defensive side of his game. As whilst it made a refreshing change seeing him sprint. It was still ineffective a lot of the time. HaydnNUFC
Saturday was the best he's played since Man United (h) in February 2018, when we won 1-0. That day he assisted the goal and worked tirelessly off the ball, closing players down, winning the ball back. The weekend was reminiscent of that, but he simply has to keep that up. When he's like that he's superb.
AyeDubbleYoo
I really want to like him, the way he plays the game is brilliant at times. Even his composure to take little touches under pressure and relieve his teammates a bit is class. Rafa binned him pretty much instantly, either he wouldn't get onboard with what Rafa wanted or Rafa just believed he was beyond help. Massive open question whether he can maintain this kind of form, and also with who we put beside him.

Guest ManDoon
He made a bad decision for their third goal. Not sure why he ran over to to try double up on a player and just left Onyeka and gave him a free shot. Murphy was about to win the ball back That aside he looked okay on highlights

Happened on both their first goal and their last one. Good to see the effort from the team, but just needed to be a bit more under control when going for the ball. Think we'll get better at that as they continue to work on the new approach.

He basically made the situation worse, Murphy was fine and Shelvey leaving his man, offered an out ball and obvs the shot that went in. Definitely nice to see him putting in some effort though. Abra Dubravka
Disrespectful through the wording of whatever that muppet was trying to ask. Would have loved to see roll extended there and Shelvey properly put him in his place. Don't know the lad, but strikes me as type of character that sort of would worry about shit said on social media, and probably has/does affect him. Whatever interview I've ever seen him do is when he's at start of his next 'redemption cycle', out to prove critics wrong etc. Does seem a pretty reserved, decent enough lad though - remember somewhere reading years and years ago that the shit he got from his alopecia when he was younger was tough for him. End of the day, there must be some reason why he's never responded to the carrot or stick when he's been given both by every manager he's ever played under since leaving Chalton at 17. Conjo
That possibly makes our club media puppet the football journalist with most integrity in the world. Imagine asking a question that all fans wants to ask him, and answering truthfully when Jonjo asks him why.
STM
That's both absolutely the right thing to ask Shelvey and totally not the right thing to ask him, at the same time. Fuck Shelveys feelings TBH, a couple of weeks ago he trotted onto the pitch and got himself sent off because the match wasn't going our way. Fuck him. Lenny
He's got one of the worst mentalities I can recall seeing in a professional footballer. He has a proper defeatist attitude (see his comments within days of the takeover happening "well I guess I won't be here" or something to that effect), cannot take any criticism and cannot maintain his temper when he's singled out, be it by fans, opposition players or in fact anyone. You could see him mouthing back to a fan (or possibly some staff on the sidelines) even in our last game and I'm sure at one point he snapped towards one of our players (possibly ASM). He's absolutely not the kind of personality you want in a squad. We do, unfortunately, need him now though.
HWTL
Not saying Shelvey has always given 100% or even 70% this season or even the last one but honestly who wouldn't be fed up playing so defensive and lacking fitness or tactical training, also playing in a team that's so lacking in confidence and a crowd and fanbase that's has been so fed up, any player that isn't really a defensive type of player would have struggled and been disheartened every game. If your game is mostly about spraying balls about and not having nobody in space or having any room to do it then he isn't going to thrive, not even sure what he was asked to do during Bruce Ball. Definitely should be given another chance this season as with others in same position and prove there worth playing for the badge.
