Jonjo Shelvey (now playing for Burnley)

Recommended Posts

Doesn't even do the limited "good stuff" he used to do anymore.

Shelvey, Gayle, Ritchie, Clark, Murphy. All players that were out or about to be moved on by Rafa. All the type of players you would find in relegation or championship teams.

While Murphy/Clark/Ritchie have shown to be useful at times if they can be replaced his summer jettison them all with Hendrick, Carroll, Atsu, Krafth too. Kick the longstaffs out on loan to boot.

Are there stats available online that prove what we’re seeing with our own eyes?

The thing about the stats is that they will probably go against what we are seeing. I.e. he makes the easy back pass to the central defence or to the side quite often and makes cowardly runs backwards after he realises he’s fucked up and let his man go

I'd been enjoying summer. Really enjoyed the Euro's, a massive distraction from this shit.

Now two of the top threads on here are about Steve fucking Bruce and Jonjo fucking Shelvely. What a way to bring me back down to earth  Football is shit again.

Good, that instantly improves the shit team to be a tiny percent less shit without him, I’ll take that. How he’s made it this far as a ‘footballer’ I’ll never know.

I like Jordan Pickford more than I like most of our players these days

When asked about his absence, Bruce told reporters: "Jonjo hurt himself before pre-season doing running on his own."

Can be dangerous that running malarkey. Must be why Jonjo barely ever does any on a matchday.

The old judging a player purely on their stats.  I've watched shelvey at nufc now for 5 1/2 years and he's absolutely overrated.

Aye, load of shite that. He's a lazy, miserable, unreliable luxury player who has a good game in every 12.

As our esteemed manager says "you can have all sorts of statistics about whatever you like".

He has 1 decent game in like, 10. If that. It's why he's still here and why he even stayed in the Championship with us in 2016/17, just the standard in the league that season was shocking so he only needed to put in a 6/10 performance to look like he was running the midfield. Plus he had Rafa. Can't remember a good performance he's had since Benitez left, I know he was our top scorer in 2019-20 ( ) but I genuinely can't. Last time I remember him being any around decent or above was in the last few home games of 2017/18.

He needs replacing so we can move forwards but the system he finished the season in made him look decent. All he has to do is pick the ball up off the centre halves and spread the play to one of our runners. He's so deep he doesn't get left for dead in a foot race and he doesn't even attempt to go upfield.
