joeyt
Not arsed either way if this happens tbh. It'll help the club if it happens so I'm prepared to swallow a bit of pride. I'm not thrilled at how he left but I want what's best for the club and having him in black and white going for the next 40 points we need to go up has to be the priority. We'd be a better side with him in the squad and the number 1 goal has to be promotion. Wouldn't surprise me if we're trying to do a loan deal with an obligation to buy if we get promoted
afar
If and it's still a huge IF, he were to come back, where would he and Ritchie play ? Ritchie to the left, him on the right ? Wasn't the biggest issue at Palace all because he was asked to play on the left, where his favoured cutting inside was negated ? How comfortable would Ritchie be playing on the left, or does one of them go into the 10 role ?
xLiaaamx
Just let Ritchie play number 10. He barely stays in one place anyway.
Tiotes Witch Doctor
Ritchie would probably make a good number 10 actually, very good close control and seems to good at little intricate passing moves, think it would be Ritchie left and Townsend right though if he did come. Ronaldo
Given what Rafa's system requires from a no.10, Diame is by far the most most suitable. Not ideal obviously.
Tiotes Witch Doctor
Agreed, but think Ritchie could do a job if required.
shintonsghost
Hes not the most gifted player,i hate "bang average" as a term but he is, and if paying £12 million to get us over the line for him works its job done. Anything just to make sure we go up.we need it.
loki679
Just a load of aggregated comments. That's either pure genius or i'm reading too much into the use of 'aggregate' in relation to concrete.
Dan Gleebals
Any player that chooses to go and play for Pardew for "footballing reasons" is a total knob. I don't want him back.

I'm probably the biggest idiot on this board but he is actually a good player. It either him or Ameobi......
The College Dropout
Townsend comes in and he's at worst the 3rd best player in the team. The second best attacker in the team. We aren't Liverpool or Manchester United. We get relegated and any PL team could take our best players. No hard feelings.

TK-421
He signed on 26th January last year. Would be weird if a deal was agreed, and everything confirmed/sorted exactly 1 year later!

We aren't Liverpool or Manchester United. We get relegated and any PL team could take our best players. No hard feelings. This. People need to grow up. Club was relegated at not fault of his own, he had a clause the club were happy to put in and he was offered premiership football while trying to break in to and stay in the England team. If only the rest of the fuckers tried as hard as he did last season.
matta
Him and Ritchie in the same side would be great. Wanted him to stay, and would welcome him back. Would be a great upgrade (again) to the team.

Zero
I have concerns on his forms rather than his morality. Not every player can come back strong after Pardewed.
1964
Everton paid £10 million for that Lookman teenager, the prices for English player are beyond obscene. In those terms Townsend is reasonable
1964
Is Ryder working for the Sunderland Echo now? This was their headline ?? did anyone else's knee get asked? 'Magpies knee on reunion with £13million Townsend'
Leazes_End_Mag
Shelvey Ritchie Townsend Gayle Those 4 are by far better than anything else in this division so if we sign Townsend, i'd be extremely confident of winning the league.

This was me as well, but if he does genuinely want to come back I won't hold it against him. It's tantamount to admitting he was wrong to leave in the first place. Kimbo
What he did was the footballing equivalent of indulging in scat, but everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves, if he's learned a lesson then fair enough.
