lovejoy
Sometimes you've just got to bite the bullet and pay up. You may not like it, it may pinch a bit and you resent doing it but it's often worth it to get you out of the s*** and/or ensure things are sorted. Boiler breaks in December? Get it fixed. Break down 150 miles from home? get it fixed. Miss your train home and have to pay triple to get back? Pay it. We've chosen to not pay it. Might work out, might not, why take the f***ing chance though? f***ing arseholes. Exactly.
Teasy
We need Townsend then bleat on about how we're fucked if Shelley is injured. They don't even play the same position!! Well yeah, we need another creative outlet. Not just for when he's injured but at home where he's often fairly successfully negated. He's never negated like, we're always worse without Shelvey. samag
Had mixed views about resigning him. More disappointed we failed to sign a central midfielder . We needed to replace Colback

Absolutely spot on.
Hughesy
Think we need to remember that we should have comfortably beaten Blackburn even without Shelvey.
Guest
If you're pretty comfortable with a table seat from Newcastle to King's Cross, and you're past Peterborough, are you going to then pay over the odds to upgrade to First Class for the final leg of the journey? If it was reasonably priced you might take it, but you might baulk at it if you thought it was too expensive.
Hanshithispantz
Blackburn got their game plan absolutely spot on like, they made us look bereft of ideas bar 10 minutes in the first half. A proper Euro 2016 performance.

Of course we are and I didn't suggest anything to the contrary. At home he's been significantly stifled in 2 games that I've seen leading to defeat this season and it would be good to have another outlet.

We are not totally certain of getting promotion, we are big favourites but things can change easily.

Ritchie, Diame, Atsu & Perez all have it in them to be such an outlet. Some produce less frequently than others, but we're far from being a complete one man team. Hanshithispantz
For another Emily Ratajkowski analogy that makes no sense. She's coming round your house after you played your texting A-game, but all you have in is a couple of ASDA Lasagnas and a 2l bottle of Highand Spring Water. You have money in your bank, loads in fact you've just been paid, and a shit load of petrol. You could drive to Marks & Spenser's and pick up a meal deal for 2 with a bottle of wine. You don't. You risk it. You're a fool.
AyeDubbleYoo
TBF that argument has two sides. Signing Townsend wouldn't guarantee promotion either, we'd go from being big favourites to a bit bigger favourites.
Foluwashola
You're Alan Barnes. A nice young lass has raised £300k and you've fucked off to the Shetlands. Do you give her a decent reward when you can get away with a tenner? Do you fuck.

There's always the risk someone jumps in front of the train, breaks down, regardless, but ultimately we're still well on course.
r0cafella
It's the clubs fault period. They didn't want to spend because they believe on doing things on the cheap. If we had any intentions of bringing him in it would have been done before deadline day as both Palace wanted him out and the payer wanted to return. Palace didn't want him out that badly or they wouldn't have been dicks about the loan fee. They could easily have offset that against the £13m in the summer and if we didn't get promoted so didn't take the option to buy, surely he would command a better fee after playing rather than warming their bench. Didn't see Townsend come out begging to return either....probably hoping another prem club would swoop in.

As far as we know ,so does that mean he is over priced or Palace had no desire to sell him for the 13 million. Think they be more to it than just Ashley not wanting to spend money
