As it stands we're having to hope that players who have struggled in the PL before will now be good enough to get us to around 40 points. I just don't see it. We struggled quite a bit at home last season and our away form was based on keeping out second rate attacks and us taking some of the chances that came our way. We were relegated with better players than we've currently got. I can't see us getting relegated as we've obviously got a manager who will get far more out of the squad than the previous muppets were capable of, but as it stands, it looks like a season of hard struggle and not much enjoyment. I'm sure the intent is to get more quality signings in, but if we are waiting on players being shipped out we are probably going to miss out on some targets. If no more players come in I'd imagine the manager will no longer be here I suspect we'll land between two stools, Rafa will want 3-4 more players, we'll deliver 1 maybe 2. Odear Posted July 23, 2017 Share Posted July 23, 2017 I'd have Cabaye back in a shot but not to play along side Shelvey. They offer similar passing attributes but Cabaye is by far the better all rounder. We do need a striker but even more so of a problem is DM, the difference a Samaris or a Carvalho would make to the team would be massive. If we're holding our own in the middle, means our defence isn't under as much pressure which means we're less likely to give away needless goals. Shelvey is a wonderful passer of the ball, but he can't defend for shit.. never mind Diame or Colback. Hayden is better but still not really that sort of player. Plus at his age it's a massive ask to perform consistently at a role he's not ideal for. I would be very surprised if Rafa doesn't have this as a priority too. Let's face it, he's slumming it at Palace. Getting paid yes. But not where someone of his level should be just on the other side of his peak. Chelsea will be looking to buy another striker before they think of loaning out Batshuayi. Maybe even another two strikers if Costa is leaving.
