Amir_9
I cannot recall a single contribution from him or even remember his name being called much It is quite insane he is still here never mind playing games.

Ronaldo
At his very best he had no business being anywhere a team with our ambitions. To be getting minutes every game 7 years later is a disgrace. And yes, it does set a tone.

HaydnNUFC
Like much of the promotion team should've been shipped out in 2018. Indictment on the previous regime but giving him an extension was odd. Even more bizarre is the persistence of bringing him on with Hall sitting on the bench every week. Do not understand it at all. It's not that it's not his fault that he's shit, it's that he wasn't in any way uniquely shit, or even really shit at all. He did what he was supposed to do as part of our park the bus approach and had a fine pen well saved. The approach, Trippier's mistake and pen miss, Wilson's shit forward play, and every forward player misplacing passes that should have broken their lines, all come way before any finger pointing at Ritchie. It's clear that defensively Howe doesn't trust Hall yet, even as much as Ritchie. Why that is, who knows. Don't think it's odd. We cannot replace everyone of our squad players that leaves without it hurting our starting 11. He's an excellent influence in the squad as well, seems ideal to have someone like that. We won't know about Hall...surely has to do with us not wanting him any more so trying not to hit the parameters of the deal that make it happen. Ritchie wouldn't be near so many minutes if we didn't hit such an insane injury crisis either. Edited December 19, 2023 by Aiston

alexf
Needs putting down. The decision to give him a new deal when it was suggested he's essentially backroom staff now was hard enough. But to see him getting substantial minutes this season in crucial games for us is too much. Without even mentioning Hall, there has to be someone in the academy that can atleast run who we should be promoting instead. What happened to that Diallo that was on the bench a few times? We played with 10 men against Man U when he played there and I won't here any different. He got no where near a player or the ball in that game and it was the same thing tonight. To those saying he "did his job". Just rewatch the few minutes leading up to the goal again. Yes it's Trippiers fault ultimately. But Ritchie is no where near closing down the crosses from that side at any point. It reminds me of that famous Ali dia video where he is running around like a competition winner never getting close to the ball or the opposition. Guest
At least he and Dummett are good in the dressing room and to have around the place. I know the real reason they likely stayed and got contract renewals is because FFP means we couldn't buy anyone else, but we've a limited squad with the injuries and these two bring nothing to the playing side when we're absolutely desperate. At the peak of his ability he was sold by Bournemouth to us in the Championship. He’s also spent the last 2 1/2 years warming our bench because no club has ever shown any interest and he’s seemingly happy collecting a wage. I’ve no idea what this ‘influence’ is but we don’t need any of our players learning from his example if we want anything approaching a winning mentality. Experienced heads and good hearts. People who retain the linkage with the past; who know what it means to play for a team. Leadership and collective responsibility. Eddie knows best. Dummett has been OK the two games he's played, and we got clean sheets against Man U and Man City. I don't have an issue with him as 25th squad member this season and you can get away with him filling in last resort defensively - particularly if he's got a decent rest of the back four around him. You can't get away with carrying players in forward areas of the pitch though. It's just so brutal especially considering our usually high intensity style of play. Ritchie has looked like a competition winner when he's got on. From what I've seen of him this year I don't think he's even Championship level anymore. He's utterly finished physically. mouldy_uk
About as useful as a set of speakers put out on the pitch which shouts at people. Really can’t believe Hall wasn’t a better option
sugoinufc
Could brought on Dummett at LB and moved Livra to LW and or just Hall in stead of Ritchie. But the plan worked so it wouldnt have change anything.

His lack of pace means he offers nothing going forward, and as a result the opposition can pile more men forward knowing he can't get in behind them on the counter. It's not his fault he's still here but on the pitch there's always the fear it will cost you against any half decent premier team.
