It's no exaggeration to say that some of our players completely lost it mentally. Pathetic stuff. Just how hard is it to play for Newcastle? To create, to play with confidence.. Matt Ritchie made the rest of the team look like they're playing another sport.

The new players were the only ones who performed well. The others were once again paralysed by fear of failure. Maybe we have to get rid of as much of last season's team as possible.

It's sickening with that kind of display against a mediocre Fulham team. Coming off a good start was always important but we ended up doing the opposite.

Very shaky defence, unbalanced midfield and way too lighweight up front. Rithcie and Hayden (1st half) only positives for me.

Looking forward to seeing Mitro and Diame in this team; Gayle in this formation is going to be frustrating to watch at times.

Lascelles saying it might not be the worst thing in the world, a kick up the arse. Can't disagree.

It's a little irritating that they need a kick up the arse after the first game of a new season in which everyone has gone on and on about how we're a big scalp and how it's going to be physical etc etc. Doesn't bode well for how this group has listened and prepared (or how Rafa prepared them).

Totally agree with this.

A kick up the arse after game week 1? Really?!?!

Rather get a sloppy, uninspired performance like that out the way in our first match of the season to give them a kick up the arse. We're habitually poor at breaking teams down that defend deep against us and that's going to happen a lot this season, hopefully this game will reinforce that to rafa and he'll drop the idea of playing so many defensive minded players quickly.

True, but if you imagine how excited, positive and carried away we've all been getting then it's very possible it's been the same with the players. Pre-season was a piece of piss as well.

Yeah. Just saying/thinking the league is going to be this/that/the other doesn't compare to an actual match. We've got what should be a much easier game at home next, which would be an absolute shocker if we didn't win. Lick our wounds, take the rough, learn from it - onwards and upwards. Pointless getting carried away with what was a difficult encounter and a poor result, which we probably should have got a point from.

We're desperate for a left back, Dummett is not even good enough in this league.

He actually looked better in the Prem than he did tonight.

No surprise there, he has absolutely nothing in his locker going forward. If we want to be topping the league and winning the vast majority of games, it's not good enough. Got away with Danny Simpson doing it last time but we had an absolutely outstanding full back on the other side and real quality (relatively speaking) in front of both of them.

Thought we were raped down our left and surprisingly soft in the middle considering Rafa's negative line up. Light up front, no balance on the wings and nervy pairing of centre backs.

Rafa let us down in all honesty. First and last time I hope.

Yep, agree with this.

Perez and Gayle can't play up front together, needs to be one or the other with Mitrovic as soon as he's available. I know Benitez likes to work from the back and is a defensive coach, but some games are just crying out for a bit more than that. I'll never get my head round starting a game like this with 3 DMs. Starting line up was all wrong, subs, as usual were spot on, but momentum was lost way before they came on. I trust Benitez to see the issues and change things, McClaren and Pardew would send out the same team week in week out hoping for change.

With the new signings to come in and two good home games coming up we need to put this loss to bed asap and move on.

I hope we never have to see that ginger twat again and Anita needs to be kept on the subs bench for emergencies only, he's a good utility player but never a starter. Richie will be our star player this season if he continues to play that way.

Exactly. I guess opposition teams will have a go at us in a handfull of games only this season (eg. Norwich away). In all other matches, especially at SJP, they will sit back and try to take us on the counter.

What a load of bollocks. We were shite. Our Centre Back's passing the ball between each other for 80mins of the game doesn't mean we did well.

Rafa needs a fucking brain transplant if he thinks we can go anywhere with Colback in the team- how can you play a possession-based game with Colback as your #6, and when Shelvey is on the bench? Madness. Utter madness.

Gamez needs to get in ahead of Dummett because that kid is League 1 material. Gobshite.

And maybe they do need a kick up the ass to realise that are still ruining peoples week

We always fucking suck at Craven Cottage. Roll on the next game.

Just got in.

This sucks majorly, but it's almost IDEAL. Hopefully this stings Rafa big time.

Colback should not be in the first team, and Anita only ever at right back.

As long as those two simple rules are followed we will be excellent all season.

So sick of this Colback nonsense. The guy genuinely cannot play the game of football. He does nothing of any note, ever.

Big lesson for Rafa today. Better to have this early on.

We were lucky to sneak a point last time in the championship and then smashed it our first home game. We're not even playing our best 11 and we played poorly to compound it. Adjust and move on. Confident we'll fuckjng clean up over the 45 games to come.
