merlin
They will come to SJP thinking they can get something because we have been far more vulnerable at home than away....they will also be hoping/gambling that Shelvey will not be available and they are likely to shove 2 men forward to pressurise our m/f and back 4. This is a game which has genuine banana-skin potential because of the likely circumstances and they will also bring a large and noisy following because it is Boxing Day. Vital that we score first and early...if they get their noses in front we may not have the guile to break them down without Shelvey and a result here is vital before Diame/Atsu etc depart for the ACN in Jan. We need to hold our nerve for these games because whoever cracks over the Christmas period, esp between us and Brighton, may be second favourites for the title. Happinesstan
It's going to be interesting if Shelvey is missing. We don't have a direct replacement so we will need to adapt our system. In the absence of his incisive passing we will need to move the ball quicker, and be more mobile. despite being head and shoulders our most talented player, we may prove to be better, or more effective, without him. ujpest doza
Wonder if we'll play Hayden and Colback or Hayden and Diame if Shelvey is banned. Probably the former if Colback's fit. Forestieri is back for them I read yesterday that Colback may be out for a while yet, more serious eye injury than first reported
BeloEmre
Any chance of Rafa using Anita in midfield?

TRon
Does anyone remember the last time we had a great set of results over the Christmas fixtures? Was it the year we finished 5th when Pardew was forced to play ben Arfa due to injuries?

TRon
2013/14 looks decent with the inevitable let down of the New Year fixture. That was the one where our form dived spectacularly after that iirc.

Foluwashola
Aye, Arsenal game wasn't too bad and then we started letting Walcott do whatever the fuck he wanted. Quite an impressive collapse it was really.
Fenham Mag
Things don't change for Pardew do they With his recent 5-4 loss and 3-3 draw.
Stifler
We would have got a point against Arsenal if he never brought Bigirama off. He was having his best game for us, then Pardew took him off and we conceded the goals at the end and was never seen again.

Figures 1-0 Football
We struggle against teams who put every man and his dog behind the ball, we need to find a way around that. Not that I think Sheff Wed will do that, I think they'll come looking to play football which will only benefit us.

Varadi
Would probably go Diame-Hayden if no Shelvey. Colback's been out a while and might be jaded. Aye, Diame in CM has to be the way forward, put Perez in at 10. Will have to adapt our style without Shelvey but that CM pairing has the potential to actually be a fair bit more dynamic, could work very well.
