Zero
Dybala dropped? No, not allowed to play with Messi so staying on the bench. The reason is he doesn't fit Messi. The Messi bubble has to burst. He is not Maradona who can carry the team on his own. The Messi & friends belief is the main reason why the qualification is a complete failure. You don't know what you're talking about. The main reason Argentina may not qualify is that Messi missed games through injury. The stats back this up. He created 5 clear chances for teammates last night. What more are you expecting him to do? Messi played in all last three draws. If you are saying he doesn't deserve to be criticised, you are telling me he isn't as great as people saying right? If you are saying he is on par with Pele and Maradona then tell me would they be free from critics for these three draws?
Mole_Toonfan
The World Cup without Messi would be an absolute tragedy, like. Aye but isn't the playoff against New Zealand? Even if they don't get through automatically, they'll be there. It's no different to when Portugal had to go through a playoff with Ronaldo. There was never any real danger of them not qualifying. Did you see the last three games? He creates chances that others don't score. Football is totally different to when Pele and Maradona were playing. Defences are much better organised than they were then. Honestly that Maradona goal in 1986. Unbelievable goal but can you imagine a top or even average international team these days allowing anyone to score a goal like that? I can't. Don't even get me started on Pele. Completely different sport in those days.

Mole_Toonfan
I don't follow international football at all because it's crap, i assumed Peru would go through automatically and Argentina would have to face a playoff no matter what. Disco
FWIW Messi is 4th in the total chances created of any player in CONMEBOL qualifying despite playing 5 or 6 less games than most and Argentina have the worst chance conversion rate. They also score few if any goals from midfielders running forward and play way too pedestrian. Read into that what you will. On the flip side they have to play defensively in midfield because there defence is absolutely shite and they have a serious dearth of box to box players or natural widemen meaning everything gets clumped up in the middle. Read something like they've tried 9 different combinations upfront these qualifiers too with no success. It's crackers.
Zero
Of coz Messi created most chances when the whole team is setting up for him. If you genuinely think this is good for the team, then explain why they get three draws. Germany won the cup without a super star. We are in top half of the league without a proven EPL star. If a team is setting up just for shining the jewel crown it won't achieve great things.

If a team is setting up just for shining the jewel crown it won't achieve great things. Because they missed loads of easy chances. Just look at their results without Messi. They can't do anything without him. Argentina had better chances than Germany in the World Cup Final and Neuer should have been sent off which people forget. And you simply cannot compare us to Argentina. Argentina have to deal with teams playing 11 men behind the ball every game, we don't

(via the playoff v New Zealand) A draw in their game, Paraguay lose or draw v Venezeula (unlikely, but possible) and Peru lose v Columbia (or Peru beat Columbia by 2 goals) and they’ll be in the playoff, no? Or does it go on a ridiculous head to head rather than GD?

Segun Oluwaniyi
Argentina are in extremely serious danger now. Quito should not even be a legal venue to hold a top level international football match. It is genuinely a danger to the players. Winning there will be extremely difficult, Messi or no Messi. CONMEBOL is held up as the most difficult qualification region, but the truth is that is the most just format of all. There are no demons waiting in a random draw, if they don't qualify, it will be the result they truly deserve. I don't follow international football at all because it's crap, i assumed Peru would go through automatically and Argentina would have to face a playoff no matter what. Calm the f*** down.
