Disco
Ends 0-0. Useless bastards couldn't finish. Argentina have to go to Ecuador at altitude and win. It could have been much much worse but Paraguay scored 2 in the last ten minutes to beat Colombia They wish. Was two in the last 5 minutes. Both absolutely avoidable too. Be insane if Colombia and Argentina don't qualify although Peru deserve it.

nufcjb
Is 6th a playoff spot in South America? no. Top 4 qualify automatically. Fifth go into a playoff against New Zealand.
Zero
Dybala dropped? No, not allowed to play with Messi so staying on the bench. The reason is he doesn't fit Messi. The Messi bubble has to burst. He is not Maradona who can carry the team on his own. The Messi & friends belief is the main reason why the qualification is a complete failure. It's a bit of a myth that Maradona carried a team on his own like, he still played with some fantastic players.
Zero
Yea kinda true as well, but the problem is people think Messi should also go that route and the team has to be Messi & Friends. When does Argentina become a super power that they don't need to field the best eleven players to win games easily? Dybala, whom Juv not willing to sell even for 100M is on the bench and Benedetto is the starting striker? WTF?

We should know with the whole Gerrard and Lampard thing that you need to pick a team and not just a bunch of individuals.

Nobody
The World Cup without Messi would be an absolute tragedy, like. Aye. But at the same time, I feel like they don't really deserve to be there.

You don't know what you're talking about. The main reason Argentina may not qualify is that Messi missed games through injury. The stats back this up. He created 5 clear chances for teammates last night. What more are you expecting him to do?

Even without that what is the justification for Benedetto over Icardi? That Icardi played the previous two games and was utterly shit, same with Dybala. Honestly last night was the best Argentina played in ages, they just couldn't finish the chances Messi was making

I'm not blaming this on messi, but they have to figure out ways to accommodate other players too. Why is Di Maria playing? 0 goals in three games. They don't have the time at the moment to wait and hope that Icardi starts playing well. Benedetto missed a couple of chances but he offered them way more than Icardi was the last two games

If you are saying he is on par with Pele and Maradona then tell me would they be free from critics for these three draws?
Mole_Toonfan
The World Cup without Messi would be an absolute tragedy, like. Aye but isn't the playoff against New Zealand? Even if they don't get through automatically, they'll be there. It's no different to when Portugal had to go through a playoff with Ronaldo. There was never any real danger of them not qualifying. Did you see the last three games? He creates chances that others don't score. Football is totally different to when Pele and Maradona were playing. Defences are much better organised than they were then. Honestly that Maradona goal in 1986. Unbelievable goal but can you imagine a top or even average international team these days allowing anyone to score a goal like that? I can't. Don't even get me started on Pele. Completely different sport in those days.

What the fuck are you on about? They have to go to Ecuador at altitude and win. They've won there once in the last ten occasions and that was in 2001. If Paraguay hadn't scored two goals in the last five minutes it was totally out of their hands. Never any danger ffs
Mole_Toonfan
I don't follow international football at all because it's crap, i assumed Peru would go through automatically and Argentina would have to face a playoff no matter what. Disco
FWIW Messi is 4th in the total chances created of any player in CONMEBOL qualifying despite playing 5 or 6 less games than most and Argentina have the worst chance conversion rate. They also score few if any goals from midfielders running forward and play way too pedestrian. Read into that what you will. On the flip side they have to play defensively in midfield because there defence is absolutely shite and they have a serious dearth of box to box players or natural widemen meaning everything gets clumped up in the middle. Read something like they've tried 9 different combinations upfront these qualifiers too with no success. It's crackers.
Zero
Of coz Messi created most chances when the whole team is setting up for him. If you genuinely think this is good for the team, then explain why they get three draws. Germany won the cup without a super star. We are in top half of the league without a proven EPL star. If a team is setting up just for shining the jewel crown it won't achieve great things.
