It is quite possible that Charnley was arrested as a pre-caution. For example if OM have been doing dodgy stuff on their end of transfer deals then when they sold players to us or bought them back then they could have signed Charnley and the clubs name for payment or responsibility of payments that were never made. They could possibly have taken out accounts in his name without him knowing. With this HMRC have to investigate our end of the deals and have to arrest Charnley so he can't communicate or be contacted by others before giving evidence. If this is the case which is feasible, them it's possible that Charnley is only guilty of being out of depth and oblivious to whats going on. He's possibly in tears right now telling them everything that happened and only now realising how he's been duped.

Where are the pictures of Charnley being arrested ffs? The lack of those pictures is by far the most disappointing thing about this story so far

Won't be any good, he's probably like Ralf Wiggum and all excited that he's going for a ride in a police car.

Twitter people saying SSN are reporting Charnley's house being raided.

Luckiest little scrote on earth, fell into a job he never deserved, gets pinched trying to squeeze out a few more £k on the sly, the greedy fucker.

I mean, innocent until proven guilty and all that, but I don't think it's too early to start discussing selection for the firing squad.

This could end up with us being victims of a fraudulent system rather than contributors.

Likely. Our only dealings have been Thauvin & Cabella.

Why has Charnley been arrested though? In cahoots with the Corsican mafia?  Is he Newcastle United MD and Ashley's stooge by day, Corsican mob Capo by night?

No police involvement. All of it is being carried out by HMRC who have the power of arrest and such. Not a criminal investigation. It is only an enquiry as of now.

HMRC prosecute cases themselves in a criminal court, police don't need to be involved. If you are successfully prosecuted you will have a criminal record. There could be issues around the 'fit and proper test' to run a football club mind!

The mere image of this has me giggling like a little kid

"Apparently as both Newcastle & West Ham cases are in remit of HMRC won't lead to any punishment on football side eg points deduction."

Hmm, the football authorities could easily put punishment if they think we've broken any football rules regarding this case.

Excellent news. Serious questions need to be asked of Charnley though.

I don't know, but I can't think of any football rules that tax irregularities could breach.

There are league rules about punishment to do with financial irregularities.  Swindon were done, Marseille in France etc, Rangers would had been punished before folding.
