How was the pen created?

The early origin of the penalty kick probably lies in rugby football, as shown in early match reports, for example in 1888: "Dewsbury was awarded a penalty kick in front of the goal"[9] The concept of a penalty goal for fouls within 2 yards (1.8 m) of the goal was suggested at a Sheffield FA meeting in 1879.[10] The invention of the penalty kick is also credited to the goalkeeper and businessman William McCrum in 1890 in Milford, County Armagh, Ireland.[11]

The Irish Football Association presented the idea to the International Football Association Board and finally after much debate, the board approved the idea on 2 June 1891.[12]

Influencing factors were for the Scottish Football Association on 20 December 1890 in the Scottish Cup quarter-final between East Stirlingshire and Heart of Midlothian when Jimmy Adams[13] fisted the ball out from under the bar.[14][15] and for the FA on 14 February 1891 a blatant goal-line handball by a Notts County player in the FA Cup quarter-final against Stoke City, which came into effect in the 1891–92 season. The world's first penalty kick was awarded to Airdrieonians in 1891 at Broomfield Park.[16] The first penalty kick in the Football League was awarded to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their match against Accrington at Molineux Stadium on 14 September 1891. The penalty was taken and scored by "Billy" Heath[17] as Wolves went on to win the game 5–0.[/quote

Longstaff look promising then?

He did actually. Nice and tidy too. He reminded me of a young Carrick the way he moved and played the ball. If he can get anywhere near the career he had mind Ashley will make a killing when he flogs him.

Few points from the game, it was fairly pedestrian for most of it. St Pats surprised me, played it out from the back the whole game.

So.. Aarons is done and dusted. Worst player on the pitch.. wouldn’t get into the St Pats team based on what I saw. Was right in front of Rafa for the whole of his wretched 45 minutes so won’t have gone unnoticed.

Longstaff is the business. Can see what people were saying, he’s very thin but apparently was far more skinny last year.. if he puts on some muscle he’ll be a great addition to the first team.

Was Lascelles injured? Worrying as nothing was mentioned to best of my knowledge beforehand.

On the flip side of that, Yarney looked a very good prospect. Barely put a foot wrong and looks like a big strong fucker. Played in the centre of defence all game.

Fernandez also looked a handy backup to Yedlin.

Good to see some young talent stepping up.

Best moment of the match, some St Pats fan shouted at Kenedy who was about 10 feet away from us beside pitch “you’re just a shit Neymar” to which he turned around to look at who said it.. then moments later totally rinsed one of their players just outside our box. When the play moved on he looked back over towards the St Pats fans with a huge smile ? was worth the price of admission just for that

That little jink looked tremendous at the time. Does anyone know which time point on the stream it occurred?

It was sort of middle of the 2nd half, he was drifting between the right and left side for a while when he came on first. I’d guess maybe around 60 mins onwards?

Kenedy has put a vid of him nutmegging a defender yesterday on his Insta story

That's the one. Tremendous.

It might be a defender but it's in our defensive third.
