HaydnNUFC
Phil Thompson raving about Merino on Soccer Saturday now. nice to see he's getting noticed Think Thompson actually likes us tbh. Especially compared to the rest of the lot on the panel he shares.

Yeah just seen this as well, being pretty reasoned about our performance today too: http://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/teams/newcastle-united/11039204/newcastle-2-1-stoke-thompson
Tiresias
Really impressed with his tackling and everything really. We don't play possession football so much but he actually feels ideally suited, can pass out of trouble when needed, can connect the long passes, has vision going forward and can also win the ball back. xxgeorge
He's simply awesome. He's skillful, good passing, he's clever with and without the ball, great positioning and awareness. What makes him standout from a typical flair player is that he's hardworking and brags. He always make himself available for a pass, and never hesitate going into a tackle or challenging a header. A perfect blend, how lucky we are
Mole_Toonfan
Thompson actually comes across that he actually watches a lot of football, unlike most others who just turn up on Saturday and don't bother outside of that.

Anyway, Merino is absolutely immense
Newcastle Fan
He's like a mix of what i used to love watching about Cabaye and Tiote, knows how to put in a tackle and passes wonderfully, what a great player.
Infinitely Content
Can't believe we've ended up with this lad like. Had a positive feeling about the signing but f*** me he's exceeded expectations already. Nice to have some real competition and Shelvey now actually has to work for his spot. madras
He plays the game that little bit further forward, carries the ball straight away, much more aware and makes it look so easy.
joeyt
Love watching him play. Has such a neat turning circle, nearly always plays the right pass and isn't afraid to get stuck in. Him being a leftie makes him even more dreamy

huss9
how many appearances left for us to buy him? should set up a countdown.
Infinitely Content
how many appearances left for us to buy him? should set up a countdown. 15 left I think. He came on against Spurs late on and has started our other 4 league games. Assuming he doesn't get injured or dropped, he'll be our player before the end of the year. Does "appearance" mean a certain number of minutes per game though? Like could he come on in one game in the 92nd minute and it's an "appearance" towards the total? (if so, is 15 mins enough from the Spurs game?) I guess no one really knows, it was only a rumour from German media that it's 20 games too

Infinitely Content
I presume so, an appearance is an appearance. It may or may not include cup games as well, hard to know really.
Tiresias
If he gets seriously injured lets just sub him off after 30 seconds make sure we can buy him
Infinitely Content
*starts Where states that? Would be interested to see as the terms have been a bit ambiguous amongst fans since he signed.
sbnufc
If it's starts, and he started every game he'd be our by the Brighton home game on December 30th Rafa will rotate at some point though, probably be ours by February/March
Sir Toon
A transfer cant be based on starts as a relatively young unknown entity to the league having to start 20 out of a possible 38 games in arguably the toughest league in Europe would be some going. May as well have no clause in as it's like Dortmund saying they dont want him to be sold.
Zero
He would be ours, no doubt about that. Dortmund may try their best to pursuade him not to sign with us but I can't see Merino goin back as he rlly hate his time there.
Cronky
Wouldn't it be that if he makes a certain number of starts, we have to buy him, rather than we can only buy him if makes those starts?
mrmojorisin75
The best thing I can say about this lad is that he looks like he shouldn't be playing for us
CPL
Liverpool are short of a midfielder or two... Would love to see what Souness has to say about him now.
