The Football Nostalgia Thread

I dunno about everybody else, but from time to time I'll go through phases where I look back and get all nostalgic about a certain era watching football. Obviously for us the choice is pretty simple. Anything from 1992 to 1997 was nothing short of magic. Saying that, beyond that there was still so much to love from the football of that time, and I imagine that the older members on here will have similar feelings going further back.

Anyway, I thought it would be a good idea to start a football nostalgia thread. It doesn't have to be anything more than just personal memories, no matter how new or old they are. For the time being though, I leave you with these:

Getting one of these every year.

So good that they didn't bother trying to design a better version.

Always thought this would be amazing. Got one, totally shite.

But it doesn't just have to be about stuff like the above. What about this beautiful man?

Or this certifiable genius?

and of course, the only man that for a long time could ever be plausibly described as being more than the club itself.

That Kickmaster. Why did we all want one of those again? Turgid product.

I remember thinking it would improve my kick up, but all it did was make me lazy. They were absolutely crap, I think I used it, at most, 10 times and then just hoyed it in a box in the shed.

I always get nostalgic over the 1998-2000 era because that was when I was around 9-10 years old and absolutely loved football at that point.

I still remember those days were the 302 teletext days and 303/304? for the scores. I used to load it then stick my face right infront of my tv to the left and gradually work my way to the right to gradually see what our score was

Reusch goalie gloves.

Puma king AstroTurf trainers.

Uhlesport or however you spell it as well. Mizuno and asics were a lot more prominent as well, especially if you were John Beresford.

My first game was an FA Cup game at home to Mansfield Town. Shearer scored the winner with 10 minutes to go I think. Grim game. January '06 it was so it is Souness, aye. First season ticket 2007/08, Allardyce in charge with Ashley in his first year :anguish:

Loved the teletext days. Obviously coincides with us being decent.

Did it later change to 316 or am I imagining that?

Can anyone remember what match ball we used in the mid 80s? Some really obscure brand that nobody had heard of and no other club used. But they were really prized and one kid I knew had one.

Why not throw some classic video games in to the mix.

I cherished my Lotto shinpads. Went through thick and thin with those bad boys.

I don't have a photo of mine, but I have the 96-97 Newcastle ones and the England Euro '96 ones. I think IP collected hundreds of these as well.

Teletext is a good shout.

Boring Milner but I was young when we were playing Sheffield Wednesday in SBR's first home game and I was sick of teletext flicking through all the scores so I pressed HOLD to keep it on the newcastle score.  Didn't realise that meant it didn't update it so I just assumed it finished 4-0 until my dad came home and told me it was 8.
