No chance we’d be this adventurous in the market under Howe unfortunately.

Our most successful manager in a generation doesn't half get some unnecessary digs on here

No thanks

I know what you mean, but if it’s a loan for 6 months, there’s far worse options. Helps build from the back, close to Hall in that ability (just weaker defensively), can dip into midfield if we had a crisis and he’s an experienced pro.

You’d only want him for possibly 6 starts and minutes off bench at most.

Looks a goer fair play to Bournemouth. No chance we’d be this adventurous in the market under Howe unfortunately.

They’ve just sold their best player for £65m, so it’s a case of being forced to replace him out of necessity, rather than being adventurous.

Shock

Would love Khusanov but guess they’ll just hoard him.

PS can Romano not just put a little bit of work into making sure his English makes sense? An important proposal FFS.

I do hate how Man City have been able to spend more in this rebuild.

Ferguson went 4years without a league title in the 00’s if I remember correctly? Maybe 3. Invincibles. Mourinho 2x.

In that time let some player projects fail.  But also developed the next gen in Rooney and Ronaldo.

City? 4 windows of massive signings. Basically wrote off most signings within 6 months.  Savino? Finished. Marmoush? Finished. Khusanov? Finished.

Unlimited spending.

I mean, vast majority of their recent business has been that approach, even if they got Guehi this month it would be same.

We could’ve made the move in summer, but the price point we’re looking at £70m, I don’t think it’s worth it. Different for Man City to drop these sums, because they can turf out whoever for good fees and write off any other losses, and still spend.

Another play they're signing on the fly.

Alleyne can be carted back out on loan now, despite being good for two games. Value there now to sell for £20m+ in summer to enable Man City to spend some more on short term targets.

They're a fucking mess, just throwing money all over this past 12 months. No concerted squad building in mind.

As if we didn't need another reality check. We're light years off these clubs. Here's us still playing a 31 year old Murphy (no disrespect to meant him though).

Still, rather he went to City than the red twats.

Yep. It's as bad as it's ever been for them in terms of recruitment strategy post-takeover.

For some reason they've largely stopped going after the best or close in the world market and keep punting on more middling targets for still massive fees.

At a point didn't they have Mahrez, Sterling, Sane and the 2 Silva's in the same squad? Plus KDB,  (a fading but still great) Fernandinho, Rodri.

Wish we managed to get Guehi last summer/winter. He's almost a guaranteed to be a good purchase.

I don't think he's the answer for us at all personally. Better suited to teams who play with a back 3. (He's too weak aerially in a back 4 imo)

Strand-Larssen linked to Leeds.

Smart by Leeds, Calvert-Lewin just won Player of the Month so his legs will probably fall off tomorrow

He’s gotten better aerially over time. And is no worse than Schar in the air.
I actually think he would be great for us. Particularly as a leader. His composure. Taking responsibility. Concentration.

I like Thiaw and Botman. But I don’t think either have the leadership and that bit of mental steel that Schar and Burn have yet.  Now obviously both are young and will develop. Burn improved as a CB well into his 30’s imo.

Guehi has those characteristics naturally though. Good enough footballer and defender to be of value to pretty much any team in the world.  Maybe not always as a starter. But as I keep saying 3rd and 4th choice CBs at CL clubs play a lot of games.

Generally I don’t like centre backs that don’t win their headers. But I think mentality is more important.

If we are to move on one of Burn or Schar in the summer I might prefer a slightly older replacement say 25-28. Or get a slightly older GK.
