Its a new manager in the summer though. As a player you'd want assurances of your longer term place in the team, surely?

How much choice do managers have these days?

At most clubs, managers get what they are given.

+ Mateta is off and Nketiah isn't good so they need someone for right now.

Who do Liverpool make a play for at LB this window though? We were lining one up, and they got sniff so making a play? :bob:

Probably planning to try and get Hall tapped up next Saturday evening

I'd pay £60m all over again for that first season. An absolute monster, as your lot should know.

Sounds expensive for a 1 season wonder.

Does Spence not play LB for Spurs?

Guess an additional option for free he's still a decent player.

Ideally we have Porro and Spence at RB and Udogie and the new Brazilian kid at LB. Presume Robertson is supposed to be tiding us over while Sousa beds in. Spence can basically play anywhere.

For those who may not have realized, Ben Davies had a serious injury that means he’s out for the season and maybe longer. This is presumably who Robertson’s supposed to replace.

I don’t fully back it but as a cheap stopgap I guess, whatever.

Imagine the wages won’t be cheap.

Have I made up that Spence has been playing left, or has he just been filling in?

He’s been playing left, but partly because Udogie has been injured so much and Davies has been injured/old. At times he’s looked better at LB than RB tbh. He did a decent job at LW against Dortmund. Ideally I’d like him on the right, but ideally I’d like a lot of things to be different, so we’ll see.

Probably not but we’re probably insured against Davies’ injury so that will offset it.

We also just need some experienced heads on the pitch. I dread to think what the average age of the team was that was trying to close out the game against Dortmund. That’s unsustainable. Gallagher and Robertson - if he comes - provide some real experience and nous that will hopefully avoid any setbacks being quite so debilitating.

I agree the experience of those 2 is needed.

My impression of this Spurs era is that you’ve become a shit Chelsea.  A young and talented squad that lacks experience and leadership. And the overall club doesn’t have a productive vision or purpose so it’s all a bit aimless and without heart. A soulless club imo.  Is that a fair take?

 That word “soulless”. I’m not sure it means what you think it means.

Nah. We’re not like Chelsea at all, and I don’t think many clubs are tbh. Brighton maybe closest with the multiclub stuff and buying lots of young players from abroad. Seems a bit weird and forced to link us.

We’re in a peculiar position because the person that has effectively been the club - outside the fans, remember them? - for 20+ years was suddenly booted just a few months ago with the season well underway. We’re in a bit of limbo behind the scenes and on the pitch - but the fans are still here. We know what we are, and what we want, and that’s part of the reason why Frank is under pressure. Plus all the losing.

I can talk forever about this but it’s the wrong thread. Bottom line, we need to get the DoF and Head Coach right. The we can talk about the rest. The soul is still there.

Back to the thread - somebody said Robertson’s been doing some work at LCB which would make this move make a lot of sense. Straight replacement for Davies, allows us to do 3-4-3 which makes sense with the personnel. Broadly

"Soulless" as in the Ownership and decision makers.

From the outside it looks like you've bought some highly rated youngsters and hoped it would all work out eventually.

Palace linked with Acheampong

One of my dream signings. RB and CB cover, could mitigate if Tino leaves in summer

Seems like a craxy talented player, like Chelsea's academy produces regularly

Seems like a fairly low cost gamble.

Guy on his way down, big wages and only going to get worse really. He'll likely be tried to be peddled off this time next year.

Yep, he's a proper talent. I think he's far better than Chalobah was at that age, and he hasn't done too badly for his career.

Tyrique George I'm less sold on being a talent. CHO IMO is the benchmark and he doesn't come close.
