Rafa Benítez (now unemployed)

Recommended Posts

 rafa patched up all the holes and made us (barely) seaworthy again.bruce actively punched new holes in the hull, undoing rafa's work and had us sinking rapidly

"well the league position was similar so basically the same"

What I liked about Rafa was that he was prepared to come out and challenge the regime. I'll be honest, I didn't always like the football he played but I know that's how he had to play, don't think he had much choice and knew there was always a plan, always the work.

It's a crying shame he came at the wrong time for the club, but also a relief that he did and then provided a touch of class. I sometimes think of an alternate world where he was given the tools to do his job, and when he left I nearly checked out altogether.

But, here we are, and he's a major part of where we are and could be.

You know Bruce over 2 seasons was statistically as good/bad as Rafa?

Rafa was nothing but a chancer. Statistically as big a chancer as Bruce was.

I don’t want to pile on, but this is a dreadful post. Imagine being so clueless you’d even make that comparison.

Rafa took a shit team and made it good, Bruce took that same good team and made it shit.

Yes the points per game or whatever may look similar when averaged over their tenures, but the trajectories they had us on were completely opposite.

Mad how anyone can have a negative view of Benitez. One of a handful of people of the Ashley era that deserve any credit or respect.

Comparing him to Bruce as well, the fat wanker who benefited from the solidity Rafa built only to steadily tear it away. In the meantime ostracising the likes of Schar.

Not to mention Bruce being backed far more.

It’s like comparing Mother Theresa and Anders Brevik.

Rafa - inherited a team in the relegation zone and left them as an established PL team, after a negative net spend.

Bruce - inherited an established PL team and left them firmly in the relegation zone, despite a £100m net spend.

Context is everything.

It’s insane mate - I’ve no idea why I reply to idiotic posts!

Without Rafa there, was no takeover and certainly no League Cup trophy!

Statistically I'm correct in my analysis.

Bot turned out turgid dogshit football. Rafa v City when e threw in the towel at the first whistle was the most disgusting tactic I've ever seen.

Statistically, Bruce was a bit worse.

Contextually…

At least there was a tactic.

We nearly got a result in that game n'all. Given we had Elliot, Dummett, Manquillo, Aarons and Joselu in the side, maybe we should've been more gung ho.
