Twinport53
I have no doubt it'll be the land for the gallowgate expansion like. If he can't build some SD shit on it or sell it for student accommodation, he wants it paid to him at later date.
Big Geordie
It needs asking at the next fans forum - what is going on with this latest revelation. I'm not sure it will be answered again though. Backs up the argument that he's never had the club up for sale, because he has his claws in too deep. It's been yet another smoke-screen to mislead us supporters. Shearergol
Hmm... https://www.themag.co.uk/2018/05/revealed-mike-ashley-committed-newcastle-united-least-55m-future-lease-payments/ So he transfers ownership of land to a different company then charges NUFC to rent it even though they will never use it? Technically illegal, right?

Eddy Chibas
Interesting that Mike's future son-in-law (likely), a property developer, is a director of this entity. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03304860 ..... also raised in the thread, attached to The Mag's article concerning the 55m lease being paid by the club to ? Stifler
That's the fucking land behind the Gallowgate that the club owned, that Ashley said he bought in a separate deal (for £50m), and that he has plans to build student housing on. So he's either fleecing the club by either getting us to pay for something that we don't and will not use, or he's selling the club this land in order to sell the land with the club. Already knew that going by the previous company names ie. the vetoed casino project. So thanks for the fucking clarification lol. Still interesting that another Yes Man has now connected to the club, although this one is closer to the Ashley's roost.

For now I'm leaning towards your first theory.

If we really are buying the lease then surely thats his building work not happening, and if it did then surely we would be gaining the income? IneedAbed
Thought we would effectively be paying the rent for the use of the land, 55m due over 5 years effectively paying mike ashley the 50m he paid nufc for it, giving mike the land essentially for nothing. ?? Thats how I read it
Matt
This £55m was not shown for 2015 in the accounts for that year, but were shown in the prior year comparable for 2016's accounts. Which suggests to me a change in accounting treatment rather than a change in circumstance. Clearly it is a very long lease which is of use to the business so can only conclude this relates to either the leasehold on SJP (most likely) or the training ground. If it was a transaction with a related party, it would need to be disclosed as such.
Shelveys Hair
Heres the trick.. we pay for transfers upfront and dont seem to mind selling players over a period of time for x amount in installments. So if we sell a player for £30 million over 6 years thats £5 million a season. By us paying upfront for our deals we can only use £5 million of that £30 million to buy a new player. We dont get to invest the full £30 million in a new player. It may contribute to paying for 6 players over the 6 seasons however, but it stops us having the same buying power as cloobs who are willing to do deals paying in installments. Now here is the question; who insists on the instalments the buying club or us? I know which one I think. Pretty sure I remember the club confirming in the past, that it is us who requests installments - excuse given, that it it gives us an ongoing cashflow, and allows us to demand higher fees, if the buying club is able to spread the cost. Sure the club also confirmed at same time that we pay fees upfront, to avoid the kind of ongoing costs that Ashley inherited for players. Whether any of that have become flexible under Benitez, is unclear though, with the club supposedly now owing money for players (in the accounts).
