I hope you're all ready for summer takeover speculation that will result in little to no financial backing in the transfer market.

Something I did wonder, with Ashley's previous asking price announcements, etc. When he said he wanted £350m the rumour was he'd accept £300m without caveats, I wonder if it's the same now where he's announced £400m but actually would take £350m. I guess we can but hope, though if any of us was selling a house it's unlikely we'd set out with the actual price we'd accept, just so we have negotiating space. £350m sounds a lot more realistic to our worth... though this IS Ashley we're talking about and yes, he's a cnut  :hmm:

At this point my main concern is that Ashley will be able to give Rafa what he needs both in funds and freedom to use as he wants rather than any more talk of buyouts since it's pretty clear that he doesn't want to sell at a reasonable price.

He said last year that he would even accept a deal based on installments but nothing came of that.

Manuel Pellegrini will be confirmed as the new West Ham manager in the next two days — with a brief to turn them into a top-half team.

The 64-year-old will be named as David Moyes’ replacement after Rafa Benitez decided to stay at Newcastle, where owner Mike Ashley has agreed to bankroll a summer spending spree.

Pellegrini - a former Real Madrid and Malaga boss - spent three years at Manchester City and delivered the 2013-14 Premier League title in his first season in charge.

He went on to lift two League Cups at the Etihad before being replaced in 2016 by Pep Guardiola.

Pellegrini was first approached by West Ham in October to replace Slaven Bilic but declined as he didn’t want to take over mid-season, so they turned to Moyes.

He quit mid-table Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune at the weekend, after agreeing a deal with the Hammers.

West Ham chairman David Sullivan pledged last week to appoint a manager with “a proven level of success at the highest level”.

They are now set to give the former Chile international defender a “substantial” transfer budget, with the aim of revamping the squad.

Pellegrini was ditched by City after failing to guide them to the Champions League title.

He did, however, lead them to the semi-finals of the competition in 2016 — the only time the club has reached that stage in their history — and is still warmly regarded at the Etihad for the job he did there.

Benitez - who has a £6million release clause - has just 12 months remaining on his contract.

West Ham made him their first choice and were initially confident of landing him after receiving a positive response following initial contacts with his camp.

But the Londoners finally admitted defeat last week after learning Newcastle were prepared to back the fan-favourite Spaniard in a bid to keep him.

Pellegrini and Benitez were on a four-man short-list, with West Ham determined not to find themselves in relegation trouble yet again next season.

Also in the frame were former Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery and Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca, who met Sullivan last Monday.

Portuguese Fonseca - who was also targeted by Everton, after sacking Sam Allardyce - has since signed a new contract to stay at his Ukrainian club.

The problem with anyone matching Ashley's asking price is that you then have to buy a #9, a #11, sign Dubravka, move the scouts out of a demountable et al.

Suddenly you're touching half a billion.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm at the point where I still won't believe it if I see it tbh.

Meanwhile at Spurs with a chairman that gives a actual f**k about club facilities http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5773095/Inside-Tottenhams-luxurious-new-player-accommodation-lodge-situated-training-ground.html  :yikes:

Nice to see them get things added to a already great Training ground while we are still in a outdated nursing home of a training ground  :undecided:

Lawd have mercy ... we are so pathetic

We'd better not even wink at any players Tottenham are even considering this summer.

Outrageous facility that is. With the new stadium to come and all. Urgh.
