Hopefully those quotes put to bed some of the daftness about his loyalties.

He's had a pretty remarkable turnaround this season really. If he doesn't feature last season then we almost certainly get into Europe, now he's possibly first choice for as long as he's fit. Didn't see it coming at all.

Either we really are struggling badly with PSR and Pope and Dubravka might both stay. Or we are selling Pope whilst he has some value and looking to bring in Trafford/a new keeper.

If Dubravka is our number one to start next season. It would be pretty uninspiring.

OR Eddie is happy with the current situation.

Maybe in comparison to other areas that need strengthening. So the first line of my post still sort of applies here.

Even as a massive, biased fan of Pope. If we had money to spend. Then I would imagine Howe would want better and more complete goalkeepers than him and Dubravka.

You say that about Dubs but it's pretty difficult to argue how well he's done this season.

The age profile is a massive issue but I wouldn't be surprised if the club kicked the can for another year.

Could the 1 year extension be a way for us to get a fee from a Saudi club rather than him leaving on a free?

Just thinking wouldn't he rather a 2 year plus contract in Saudi on more money, rather than 1 more year with us (footballing reasons aside 😂

I think his wife gave birth recently and he and his family love the north east. Money is nice but living in Saudi is a different ball game

He was the one pushing to go there from the reports a month ago.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka has signed a new contract with the club.

The 36-year-old joined the Magpies in January 2018, initially on loan, making his debut in a 1-0 victory against Manchester United. The Slovakia international signed on a permanent basis the following summer after making twelve appearances.

This season, Dúbravka has made fourteen appearances in all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets. He won the Premier League's Save of the Month in December for a stop against Wolves at St. James' Park.

On signing his new contract, Dúbravka said: "I'm really happy to have extended my time here. I had a really positive discussion with the gaffer and sporting director and we all agreed that it would be best if I stayed here.

"I have a really special connection here with the club, the staff and the fans. My children were born here, so they are Geordies now, and this club holds a special place in my heart.

"I feel that the team is in a really good place at the minute, with how we are doing in the league and obviously being in two cup competitions is really exciting."

Head coach Eddie Howe said: "Martin is a high-quality goalkeeper who has performed brilliantly for Newcastle United over the years.

"He has stepped back into the team recently and performed very well, demonstrating his value within a strong goalkeeping unit.

"It's no secret that he had options to move on in January, but he deserves huge credit for keeping his focus. We are delighted Martin is staying with us."

Interesting how they don't disclose the length of the contract, where as they did with Krafth.

Keith Downie saying it’s until next summer.

As well as Dubs, Burn and Murphy have done for us this season, we need to upgrade all of them (plus Schar now too) if we want to progress.
