Benefit of the doubt is that goal was rustiness. Because it was Dubravka bad.

Im not sure what level Pope is at. I’m a big fan.  But he’s not making the saves he used too.  His throwing is great. Ur his passing is wow bad. I don’t want to see him and Burn in the same team.

Be go one in the Summer  not what he once was.

Not that surprising really

Quote

Who has the most errors leading to a shot in the Premier League this season?

Robert Sanchez (Chelsea) – 7
Josko Gvardiol (Man City) – 7
Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton) – 6
Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) – 6
Calvin Bassey (Fulham) – 5
Arijanet Muric (Ipswich) – 5
Nick Pope (Newcastle) – 5

Only started 16 games too.

Just when I started feeling a bit sorry for Dubravka. Family of sulkers man.

Stuff like this surely also hampers his chances of getting back in as it could be interpreted as weak if he’s now put in the starting 11.

Would have him back in for the final. The fact he can kick a ball is the main + but Pope's inferred better shot stopping ability hasn't really been on show this season when he's played.  So there is no real benefit to playing Pope at the moment other than he sweeps up slightly better, but shits himself when he gets the ball so not sure if it's all that helpful .

I mean he was still our player till the summer like. Yeah it was a shit decision to drop him, but no idea why people think he's been hard done by..

i'm not bothered about him being hard done by. couldnt give a shit.

but dropping him and bringing in pope means the team has been hard done by.

How many goals had Dubs contributed to with his distribution? Pope’s throwing contributed to 2 at the weekend.

Pope’s passing is woeful but it hasn’t cost us a goal. Howe has got to get the defence and Pope drilled into not exposing his lack of control.

We mustn’t forget that Dubs is hardly Pirlo, that he’s just turned 36 and isn’t as good a keeper as Pope.

Pope turns 33 in April and he’s definitely lost something. Hopefully a run of games will help him. He’s been criticised for both Forest’s & Lpool’s 1st goals. He’ll be disappointed for both but Murphy was at fault for the Forest goal with (imo) Pope being caught closer to his line than he’d have been if there’d been a normal attack and not us gifting possession around our penalty area. Lpool’s 1st went through 2 sets of legs with 6”7” Burn standing on the 6 yard line.  I think that’s a far harder save to make than it looked.

Give Pope the opportunity to play himself into better form.

I really can’t understand this idea that Dubs is clearly better. It’s like Nick Pope being out for a bit turned him into Mike Hooper or something.

At very best it’s 50/50 between them depending on which strengths you prefer.

Dubravka is no where near as good as some are making out, but there's no denying having a keeper who doesn't treat the ball like a time bomb has its advantages.

Agreed.  But after we used it to great success in some of Dubravka's games earlier on, I think Man U was one that really stood out.  I don't think we regularly used him in the build up.  It was hardly like he was helping bypass the high Bournemouth press, for example.  I don't think we've ever looked to play like that since Howe has been here, with him or Pope, for obvious reasons for the latter

I still don't get the narrative of "he didn't deserve to be dropped!"  He isn't our number one, Pope is.  He was playing well, but nothin particularly amazing bar Wolves where he made two amazing saves.  Had a bad game at City, Pope had just had a good game in the FA Cup and can only assume was back to full fitness.  So it's hardly an outrage that our number one goalkeeper then got back into the side.

Pope used to be definitively better. Don't think that's the case atm.

I was a massive advocate for the Pope signing. But his form post injury is a concern.
