As I keep reminding the makems at work, this IS the worst period of their history - the only other time they've been in the third flight, they were top of the league all season and walked promotion. They are called Stanley and that goes back to Stanley street in Accrington, whereas Stanley street Byker is the origin of Newcastle United according to a pretty decent decent club history.
