The Nice director is quoted directly as saying that Borussia were the player's preferred choice, not really sure there is much we could have done there other than not bid for him at all if we thought he wasn't interested.

Newcastle United are on the brink of losing out on Nice striker Alassane Plea after Borussia Monchengladbach held their nerve during negotiations for the 25-year-old striker.

 

Gladbach are understood to have offered £22million for Plea and refused to up their bid after leaving the room during discussions for the centre-forward.

 

United are believed to have offered £20million for Plea two weeks ago but did not return with a second bid.
